RHYTHM INTO AWARENESS | PART 2

Now we move from understanding… to experiencing.

Bring your awareness inward.
Feel rather than analyze.
Notice without trying to change.

Breath. Body. Awareness.

Give yourself these few moments to simply be here.

What if the drum isn’t only something you hear—but something you experience?

RHYTHM INTO AWARENESS | PART 1

The djembe brings ancestral knowledge, physics and embodied awareness into the same conversation.

This is where we begin—not just understanding vibration, but experiencing it.

Begin with an exhale.

Part 2 takes us inward.

Our youth drummer Nairo traded the djembe for the road for a minute!

We love seeing our youth experience culture beyond the drum — not just learning it, but finding their own way to move in it.

Go Nairo!

The Virginia Black Film Festival, founded by Bryan G. Thompson, creates space for Black filmmakers and storytellers to be seen, celebrated and connected—through film, education, networking and industry opportunities.

We were grateful to bring The DAY Program’s rhythm into that space and be part of an experience centered on culture and creativity.

From film festivals to community gatherings, conferences and special events—we bring culturally rooted rhythm experiences to the room.

IS YOUR SPACE READY FOR THE RHYTHM?

Joy moves us. Literally.

A rhythm you can’t resist. A moment that pulls you out of your seat. A smile that spreads before you even realize it.

And sometimes, you just have to get up and dance.

Maybe we need more moments that make us feel this alive.

Want to bring this kind of energy to your next event? Let’s create the experience together.

It takes a village to carry the rhythm.

Throughout African Landing Week, there were drums to pack, load, transport, unload, set up—and then do it all over again.

Behind every class, workshop, performance, and gathering were people making sure those drums got where they needed to be.

To our staff, volunteers, ensemble members, friends, and everyone who grabbed a drum, carried equipment, loaded a vehicle, or simply jumped in when help was needed—thank you.

You may not always be seen in the pictures or videos, but you were an important part of every moment we created.

You didn’t just help us carry the drums.

You helped us carry the rhythm.

And we are deeply grateful.

Did you know there’s an entire craft behind the djembe beyond playing it?

During African Landing Week, Kwabena shared West African drumming with our youth. And in this moment, we caught another side of the knowledge he carries—the care and craftsmanship of the drum itself.

Different expressions. Same tradition. Knowledge carried forward.
