🔥 HEAT + HUMIDITY = DANGEROUS CONDITIONS 🔥
Southeast Texas is experiencing high temperatures and oppressive humidity that can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses. As of 2:30 pm today, the heat index reached 117.

☀️ Stay hydrated — drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty.
☀️ Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.
☀️ Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
☀️ Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.
☀️ Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and those without adequate cooling.

Know the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke:
🚨 Heavy sweating
🚨 Dizziness or weakness
🚨 Nausea
🚨 Confusion
🚨 Hot, dry skin
🚨 Loss of consciousness

If someone is experiencing signs of heat stroke, call 9-1-1 immediately.

The members of Hankamer Volunteer Fire Department encourage everyone to stay weather aware, stay hydrated, and stay safe during this period of extreme heat.

⚠️ IMPORTANT WEATHER UPDATE — PLEASE READ ⚠️

Chambers County is now under a Flood Watch and a Tropical Storm Watch. While conditions are not currently expected to escalate beyond these alerts, this is the time to make sure you and your family are prepared.

Safety Reminders:
• Do NOT drive through high or standing water — turn around, don’t drown.
• Stock up on essentials such as groceries, pet and livestock feed, water, medications, and batteries for flashlights.
• Secure outdoor items and check your emergency kits.
• Stay weather‑aware and monitor updates from trusted sources.

There’s no need to rush out and clear the shelves at HEB — just make sure you have what you need in case conditions change.

Stay smart, stay safe, and stay tuned for further updates from your local emergency services.

***IMPORTANT WEATHER ALERT!***

Please see below from Chambers County and the National Weather Service. We’re under a flood watch until at least Wednesday morning.

If you live in or drive through a low lying or flood prone area, PLEASE take precaution! Turn around, don’t drown!

It’s better to be prepared and not need it than it is to be caught in a situation you could have prepared for.

Stay tuned for updates as these storms develop.

🌪️ BE PREPARED — HURRICANE SEASON IS HERE 🌪️
Hurricane season runs June 1 – November 30, and the Hankamer Volunteer Fire Department encourages everyone in our community to take time now to get ready before storms develop.

Here are a few ways to prepare:

✅ Build or refresh your disaster kit — include water, food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and important documents.
✅ Review your evacuation plan — know your routes and share them with your family.
✅ Stay informed — sign up for Chambers County emergency alerts and monitor trusted weather sources.
✅ Secure your home — clear gutters, bring in outdoor items, and trim weak branches.
✅ Check your insurance coverage — make sure home and flood policies are current.
✅ Fuel up early — top off vehicles and test generators before a storm is near.
✅ Protect important documents — store copies in a waterproof container or digitally.
✅ Include pets in your plan — have carriers, food, and ID tags ready.
✅ Check on neighbors — especially seniors or those with limited mobility.

A little preparation today can make a big difference when severe weather threatens. Stay safe, stay informed, and let’s look out for one another this hurricane season.

This weekend, we pause to honor and remember all military service members who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Their courage and devotion safeguard the freedoms we cherish every day.

We also recognize and thank the families of the fallen—those whose strength and sacrifice often go unseen. Their loss is felt deeply, and their resilience reminds us of the true cost of freedom.

From all of us at Hankamer Volunteer Fire Department, we stand in gratitude and remembrance.
Remember. Honor. Never Forget.
