Gordon is training educators to teach reading and spelling.

Meet Dr. Doreen Mazzye, director of Gordon College’s new Doctor of Education in the Science of Learning. Her work began with a question that emerged throughout her career as an educator and parent: Why are so many students still struggling to learn to read?

Today, that question continues to shape her work. Through Gordon’s new Ed.D. program, Dr. Mazzye is helping prepare educational leaders with expertise in the science of learning and the science of reading, two fields of research that seek to better understand how people learn and how educators can support that process.

“Our nation is experiencing a literacy crisis,” says Mazzye. “Action is required.”
