Thank you to Mayor Corey O'Connor and the City of Pittsburgh for recognizing our turn your town teal advocacy event as an official holiday in the city of Pittsburgh!
The proclamation reads:
TOURETTE SYNDROME AWARENESS DAY
THE CITY OF PITTSBURGH SUPPORTS INDIVIDUALS WITH NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS AND TICS
Tuesday, May Nineteenth, Two Thousand & Twenty-Six
WHEREAS, Tourette Syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary motor and vocal tics that affects children and adults of all backgrounds; and,
WHEREAS, Tourette Syndrome is part of a spectrum of tic disorders that can impact individuals socially, emotionally, physically, and academically, while many people living with the condition also experience co-occurring conditions including ADHD, OCD, and learning differences; and,
WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania Tourette Syndrome Alliance (PATSA) and the Tourette Association of America Western Pennsylvania Chapter provide education, advocacy, support services, and community outreach for individuals and families affected by Tourette Syndrome and tic disorders throughout Pennsylvania; and,
WHEREAS, since 2023, the City of Pittsburgh has illuminated its skyline in teal in recognition of those living with Tourette Syndrome for the "Wear Teal on Tuesdays" awareness campaign; and,
WHEREAS, increased public education and awareness can foster compassion, reduce bullying and discrimination, and help ensure that individuals with Tourette Syndrome are supported in schools, workplaces, healthcare settings, and throughout the community.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that 1, The Honorable Corey O'Connor, Sixty-Second Mayor of the City of Pittsburgh, do hereby commend Tourette Syndrome advocates and all those working to advance awareness, acceptance, and inclusion throughout the region.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that I do signify this recognition by declaring May 19, 2026 to be "Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
