Annemarie and Christine recently supported the Baltimore Gas and Electric Safety Stand Down, engaging with both field and office workers through conversations surrounding ergonomics and general health and wellness. They even conducted FMS screens to help workers test and learn how to improve their mobility!

🌡️ Is your heat policy ready for enforcement season?

As temperatures climb this summer, so does the pressure on safety leaders to have the right plans in place. The increased focus on heat illness prevention means companies are being asked hard questions, and the time to prepare is now, before the heat hits.

Ask yourself:

✅ Do we have a documented heat policy?
✅ Are our supervisors trained to recognize heat stress in the field?
✅ Have workers been educated on acclimatization and hydration before summer arrives?

Here's something worth thinking about: in sports medicine, heat policies aren't optional. Athletic Trainers are educated in heat acclimatization, environmental monitoring, hydration protocols, and emergency response. We mentioned that one of the recurring themes during the trade shows was safety culture. There is a lack of trust, and therefore a lack of buy-in and participation.

When workers hesitate to speak up because they fear judgment, blame, or being seen as weak, early warning signs disappear. Compensation patterns go unreported. Discomfort gets pushed through until it becomes a reported injury.

At CIPS, we build programs rooted in a simple belief: No Name, No Blame.

When workers trust that raising a concern won't be used against them, everything changes. Reporting improves. Early intervention becomes possible. Prevention culture becomes real, not just a policy on a wall.

Last week, Annemarie, one of our Operations Managers in the East, was working onsite at a training center when a supervisor mentioned he’d been dealing with leg pain from an injury he suffered at home a couple of months ago while playing with his kids.

He hadn’t really done anything about it. Just kept working through it.

Annemarie walked him through a CareerCare® evaluation and gave him a few first-aid recommendations. A couple days later, he checked back in and said the pain had already gone down quite a bit, and he was feeling much better.

What meant the most to us was what he said next.

He told Annemarie he wanted to share the experience with his coworkers and encourage more people to take advantage of CIPS moving forward.

That’s what happens when you’re consistently present and building real relationships onsite. Trust grows naturally.

He’s now signed up for a CareerCare® Movement Assessment to work on body mechanics and hopefully prevent bigger issues down the road.
