Some of the strongest people you know may be carrying experiences you'll never see. This PTSD Awareness Month, let's choose compassion over assumptions, understanding over judgment, and support over silence.

Because healing starts when people know they don't have to face trauma alone.

Our Director of Business Development, Myrna DeCoss Rios, MBA, represented Palms Behavioral Health at the Adolescent Health Conference in Brownsville alongside more than 100 professionals and community organizations dedicated to supporting the well-being of adolescents in our community. 💚

A major focus of the conference was mental health and the importance of continued collaboration, education, and access to resources for youth and families. Myrna was grateful for the opportunity to connect with so many individuals and organizations who share a common goal of supporting the next generation.

Ending Mental Health Awareness Month on a high note by sharing a message from our Director of Business Development, Myrna DeCoss Rios, MBA!

"This month was full of opportunities to connect with our community—from the Adolescent Health Conference and the Brownsville Police Department Mental Health Wellness Walk, to celebrating the opening of a great friend’s substance use treatment clinic, and wrapping up the month at the Cameron County Mental Health Task Force’s Mindful May Community Resource Event.

I’m grateful to represent Palms Behavioral Health and serve as Chair of the Cameron County Mental Health Task Force alongside so many amazing community partners who share the same goal: making mental health awareness, education, and resources more accessible for everyone.

A special highlight was having my little mini-me join Team Palms at several events this month. Watching her be part of something that promotes kindness, wellness, and community made it even more meaningful.

Here’s to continuing the conversation long after May ends. 💚"

Resharing from our Director of Business Development, Myrna DeCoss Rios, MBA: "Honored to join community leaders, partners, and advocates during the Mental Health Awareness Month proclamation presentation recognizing the importance of mental health awareness and advocacy in our community.

Thank you to Judge Eddie Treviño Jr., Commissioner Joey Lopez, and the Cameron County Commissioners Court for your continued support of mental health initiatives and for recognizing the impact of collaboration across Cameron County.

I was proud to represent Palms Behavioral Health while also serving as Chair of the Cameron County Mental Health Task Force as we celebrate the Task Force’s 20-year anniversary of service, advocacy, and community partnership. This milestone reflects the dedication of so many agencies, organizations, and individuals working together to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and improve access to mental health resources throughout our region.

Grateful to stand alongside so many community partners who continue making mental health a priority."

Mental Health Awareness Month may be ending, but the conversations we’ve had this month are too important to leave behind.

Mental health doesn’t follow a calendar, and neither should support, compassion, or understanding. Every day is another opportunity to check in on someone you love, speak openly about what you’re feeling, or remind someone that they are not alone.

Let’s continue creating spaces where people feel safe asking for help, sharing their stories, and prioritizing their well-being without fear or judgment. Healing is not linear, and no one should have to navigate it alone.

Healing can happen slowly, so slowly that you don’t even notice it at first. Then one day, the weight doesn’t feel quite as heavy, the difficult moments become less frequent, and hope begins to find its way back in.

Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, overwhelming stress, or simply feeling stuck, you don’t have to carry it alone. Reaching out for support could be the first step toward feeling like yourself again.
