Weather Alert!

[10:15AM Monday]

Here's what we're dealing with this week! The low pressure area that was once Tropical Storm Cristina in the Pacific Ocean (which moved through Central America late last week) is now sitting just southwest of the RGV in Mexico - moving toward the northeast. It's been over land for several days now and it's no longer a tropical storm or even a depression, but it's still an area of disturbed weather - which the National Hurricane Center is monitoring for re-development once it reaches the northwest Gulf by mid-week. They (the NHC) are giving it a 30% chance of becoming at least a tropical depression as it moves AWAY from the RGV. At the same time, a late season cool front is stalling as it moves into South Texas. When the cold front hits the tropical low, boom! Heavy rain is a very good bet. Very heavy rain.

As of this morning, we're dealing with rain from the tropical Low Pressure in the RGV, while areas around Austin/San Antonio are dealing with rain from the dying cold front.

Tonight/Tomorrow, the two systems (tropical low and the front) will combine to produce persistent heavy rainfall over deep south Texas which will likely lead to flooding. The Weather Prediction Center is predicting 5-10" of rain along the entire Texas coast over the next few days including the RGV.

It's already messy in some areas and it's likely to become more widespread by this time tomorrow. Stay safe out there!
