Tomorrow is National Bring Your Cat to the Vet Day and cats need the reminder more than anyone.

Cats are seen by a veterinarian far less often than dogs, and they're experts at hiding illness until it's advanced.

Early Disease Detection Bloodwork can catch kidney disease, thyroid issues, and more, even in cats that seem perfectly healthy.

Head shaking. Ear scratching. That smell you cannot quite place.

Ear infections are one of the most common signs of allergies in pets and they rarely clear up on their own. If left untreated, they can get painful fast.

If your pet is bothering their ears, let us take a look before it gets worse. Call us at (717) 652-1270 to schedule an appointment!

Happy Black Cat Appreciation Day!

Black cats wait longer in shelters than any other cat and for no good reason at all. They are just as sweet, just as goofy, and just as ready to love you back.

If you share your home with a black cat, show them off below.

Tomorrow is National Check the Chip Day.

A microchip only works if the registration information is current. If you have moved, changed your number, or adopted a pet with an existing chip, take two minutes today to update it.

Not sure if your pet is chipped or if it is registered? We can scan and check at your next visit.

Fleas and ticks are still going strong.

One missed dose is all it takes to open the door to a huge problem. Fleas cause skin irritation and tapeworms. Ticks carry Lyme and other diseases. Mosquitoes spread heartworm.

If your pet is itchy, fleas are worth ruling out first.

It is National Spoil Your Dog Day, which we assume is just called "Monday" at your house.

Extra walk? New toy? The good treats? They earned it.

Just remember... Treats should stay under 10% of daily calories and skip anything with bones, xylitol, or chocolate.

How are you spoiling your pup today?

Happy International Cat Day! (Officially August 8, but our cats run on their own schedule anyway.)

Today we celebrate the loaf-shaped, sunbeam-seeking, 3am-sprinting members of the family.

🎉 Our First National Night Out! 🎉
The team at Animal Hospital of Dauphin County was honored to participate in National Night Out for the very first time, and we had an amazing evening!
We loved connecting with members of our community, meeting local families, and celebrating an event that brings neighbors, first responders, and local organizations together. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, entered our prize giveaways, and took the time to learn more about our hospital and the care we provide for pets in our community.
A special thank you to our Practice Manager, Office Manager, and one of our Technician Supervisors for representing Animal Hospital of Dauphin County and helping make our first National Night Out a memorable success.
We're grateful to the event organizers and everyone who stopped by to say hello. We look forward to being part of this wonderful community tradition for many years to come!

📸 Check out some pictures from the evening, including our prize giveaways and our team enjoying the event!

💙 Thank you for welcoming us—we can't wait to see you again next year!

August heat is no joke.

This is often the hottest stretch of the year, and pets can overheat fast. Keep it simple:

- Fresh water and shade, always.
- Walk early morning or evening.
- Watch flat-faced breeds and seniors closely.
- Never leave pets in a parked car.

Signs of heatstroke include heavy panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting. Call us right away if you see them. This is an emergency!
