Anchored Peer Support bridges the gaps that treatment or a mutual support program misses. It is neither therapy or sponsorship. An example is the individual that leaves inpatient and rejects outpatient. A peer worker can help them work through some early emotional setbacks in a way that sponsorship might not be able to.

Sometimes the best thing a we can do is just be kind and plant a seed. Sometimes you meet with someone and it's obvious that the person could benefit from a visit to inpatient treatment but they are not in the window. In that situation we need to identify what we can help them with. We do that by listening. We hear that they need a cup of coffee, something to eat and an application for Snap. Thankfully we are at a place where there is coffee and some muffins so we get them that and get the pastor at the church to print out the application. We grab a pen and help answer their questions about the application. We get the address and phone number for the assistance office. They say thank you and we let them know that we are here every Wednesday and that if they need anything we will do our best to help. The nod and smile. They are in a better place even if it's not where we think they should be. Sometimes truly helping another person requires us checking our desires for them at the door. Sometimes being kind requires us to pause, listen, and help them with the things that are in front of them despite the larger need that we see.

Anchored Peer Support bridges the gaps that treatment or a mutual support program misses. It is neither treatment or sponsorship. An example is the individual that loses their insurance or treatment funding. A peer worker can help them to identify a personal pathway and create a set of goals. This can create an effective foundation for them to build their recovery upon.

Anchored Peer Support bridges the gaps that treatment or a mutual support program misses. It is neither treatment or sponsorship. An example is the individual that has a lapse and feels shame surrounding plugging back into their mutual support program. A peer worker can help assure them that working through that shame will allow them to reconnect with their support group and move them in the right direction.

Anchored Peer Support bridges the gaps that treatment or a mutual support program misses. It is neither treatment or sponsorship. An example is the individual that is still actively using but knows they have a problem. A peer worker can help them work through their reasons for not seeking treatment and assist them when they enter a window to seek that treatment.
