“But they passed the school screening…”

That’s great news, but a school vision screening is just that: a screening, not a comprehensive eye exam.

Some vision problems can go undetected even when a child passes a screening, including issues with focusing, eye teaming, depth perception, eye health, or changes in vision that haven't reached the screening threshold yet.

If your child is struggling with reading, headaches, squinting, losing their place, avoiding near work, or simply seems to be having trouble seeing clearly, it may be time for a closer look. 👓💚

A screening can be a first step. A comprehensive eye exam tells the bigger story.

New glasses or contacts can be a big adjustment for kids!

A little encouragement can make the whole process easier. Let them have some ownership, create a simple routine, celebrate their progress, and show them that wearing glasses or contacts is just another part of taking care of their eyes. 💚

And remember, patience goes a long way. Those first few days can take some getting used to! 👀

Contact lens check! Are you doing it the right way?

When inserting your contacts, try to avoid touching the lens with your fingernails. Use the pad of your fingertip, keep the lens centered, and gently place it on your eye.

A little technique can make insertion easier, more comfortable, and less frustrating. We have this insertion/removal tool included in your contact lens kit! So no worries ;)

And remember: clean hands first, always!

Got questions about contact lens care or wearing comfort? We’re happy to help!

As a specialist in Cornea and Vision Rehabilitation with over 8 years of experience, Dr. Garcia has dedicated her career to helping patients achieve their best possible vision. When it comes to children, she's especially passionate about identifying vision problems early and providing treatments that can help slow the worsening of nearsightedness.

Many parents are surprised to learn that a child's prescription doesn't have to worsen unchecked. With today's myopia management options, we can often help slow progression and reduce the risk of serious eye health complications later in life.

Seeing a child gain confidence in school, sports, and everyday activities while protecting their long-term eye health is what makes this work so meaningful. 💚

One of the biggest surprises parents learn is that children should have their eyes screened as early as 6 months of age, as recommended by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

These early exams aren't just about checking whether your child can see clearly. They can help detect eye alignment issues, lazy eye, significant refractive errors, and even rare but serious conditions such as childhood eye cancers and other eye health concerns.

After infancy, children should have another comprehensive eye exam between ages 3 to 5, before starting kindergarten, and then continue with annual eye exams to support healthy visual development and learning.

The earlier vision problems are detected, the better the opportunity for successful treatment and healthy development.

Because healthy eyes help build a brighter future. 💚

✅ Checked 3 or more boxes? It may be time for a comprehensive eye exam.

Back-to-school success starts with healthy vision!

Many vision problems aren't caught during school screenings and can impact reading, focus, and classroom performance.
A comprehensive eye exam evaluates more than just eyesight, helping us identify issues with focusing, eye teaming, tracking, and overall eye health.
