Recently, the Sunnyside Communities Development Department hosted a Legacy Learning Seminar for residents at Summit Square, bringing together helpful financial education, thoughtful conversation and, of course, a few sweet treats!

Residents heard from financial advisers during a presentation, “Six Financial Gaps That Deserve a Second Look,” followed by a question and answer session that gave everyone the opportunity to dig a little deeper into the topics that mattered most to them.

Our Legacy Learning series is all about providing residents with meaningful information and resources to help them plan confidently for the future. Thank you to everyone who joined us and to our guest speakers for sharing their time and expertise!

Today, leaders from Sunnyside Communities, Bridgewater Retirement Community, and VMRC joined LeadingAge Virginia for an important afternoon of advocacy and conversation at Bridgewater Retirement Community.

The group welcomed Senator Mark Obenshain, Delegate Tony Wilt, and Delegate Chris Runion for a discussion focused on Continuing Care Retirement Communities, also known as Life Plan Communities, and the important role they play in serving older adults across the Commonwealth.

Dana Parsons, Vice President and Legislative Counsel, and Tracey Lewis, Policy and Advocacy Coordinator with LeadingAge Virginia, helped lead a conversation focused on educating legislators about the CCRC business model, how it differs from other senior housing models, and the unique benefits these communities provide to residents, families, team members, and the regions they serve.

Sunnyside Communities was grateful for the opportunity to be at the table alongside fellow senior living leaders and to engage directly with legislators about the opportunities and challenges facing aging services in Virginia.

Collaboration and advocacy are essential to ensuring the voices of older adults and the organizations that serve them are represented in conversations that shape the future of senior living.

This full time position is a great opportunity for an accounting professional who wants to bring their skills to a mission driven organization where the work has purpose. A beautiful day in Shenandoah National Park!

A group of Sunnyside residents recently traded campus views for mountain views with a trip to Limberlost Trail in Shenandoah National Park.

Located along Skyline Drive, Limberlost is a 1.3 mile loop that winds through a beautiful stretch of forest filled with mountain laurel, towering trees, and plenty of places to stop and take it all in.

Fresh mountain air, good company, and another adventure in the books. We would say that is a pretty great way to spend the day.

At Sunnyside, there is always somewhere to go, something to see, and someone to enjoy it with.

The Sunnyside Communities corporate office team was honored to take part in the 40th Annual VMRC Golf Benefit held at Spotswood Country Club.

This year's event celebrated the legacy of Diane Weaver and brought together community members, supporters, and partners in support of a meaningful cause. We are always grateful for opportunities to connect with fellow organizations that share a commitment to serving older adults and strengthening our communities.

Thank you to VMRC for hosting another wonderful event and for the important work you continue to do throughout the Shenandoah Valley.

A little sneak peek from today’s kayaking adventure with Summit Square residents.

With sunshine overhead, paddles in hand, and plenty of laughter along the way, residents and team members spent the day exploring the peaceful waters of Sherando Lake and making memories together.

Sometimes the best days are the ones spent drifting across the water, enjoying good company and a little summer magic.

There is a particular kind of freedom that comes with age. It is the freedom to care less about what others think and more about what brings joy. On a recent afternoon at Summit Square, that freedom was on full display.

The occasion was a Glamour Photo Shoot organized by the Life Enrichment team for in advanced levels of care. For a few hours, a common room became something closer to a backstage dressing room, a salon, and a celebration all at once.

Residents arrived to find tables lined with feather boas, oversized sunglasses, sparkling jewelry, and an assortment of hats ranging from elegant to delightfully impractical. Professional hairstylists curled, brushed, and styled. Makeup artists added finishing touches. In one corner, a resident considered a feathered accessory with the seriousness of a fashion editor. Across the room, another adjusted a top hat and prepared for his close up.

The atmosphere was less about appearances than permission. Permission to be playful. Permission to be seen. Permission to become, for an afternoon, whatever version of oneself seemed most interesting.

There were hors d'oeuvres and glasses of sparkling faux rosé. There was laughter that carried across the room. There were friends helping friends choose the perfect accessory and staff members offering encouragement from behind the camera. Some residents approached the lens with theatrical confidence.

What emerged over the course of the afternoon was not simply a collection of photographs (professional ones coming soon). It was a portrait of community itself. The images captured smiles and poses, certainly, but they also documented something more enduring: the delight of being celebrated.
