🌾🫁 HARVEST DUST OR BRONCHITIS?

It’s harvest season, and coughing is common—but not every cough is just from the dust!

🌾 HARVEST DUST IRRITATION MAY CAUSE:
• Dry or scratchy throat
• Sneezing and nasal congestion
• Itchy or watery eyes
• Dry cough
• Wheezing, especially with asthma
• Symptoms that worsen around fields, grain, or heavy dust

🫁 BRONCHITIS MAY CAUSE:
• Persistent cough, sometimes with mucus
• Chest soreness or discomfort from coughing
• Fatigue
• Wheezing
• Mild fever or chills
• Symptoms that continue even after leaving the dusty environment

💡 Keep in mind: Symptoms can overlap, and harvest dust can aggravate existing asthma or other respiratory conditions. Acute bronchitis is usually caused by a virus, so antibiotics are not always needed.

⚠️ GET CHECKED if your cough is persistent, worsening, associated with fever, or you’re having increased wheezing or shortness of breath.

🚨 Severe trouble breathing, chest pain, confusion, or blue/gray lips or skin requires emergency care.

🖤💛 Ramirez Healthcare
Don’t just blame it on the dust—listen to your lungs.

🌾 Harvest Season Can Stir Up More Than Dust! 🤧

During harvesting, the air can fill with pollen, grain dust, mold spores, soil particles, and plant debris — all of which may trigger seasonal allergies.

Watch for:
• Sneezing
• Runny or stuffy nose
• Itchy, watery eyes
• Scratchy throat
• Postnasal drainage
• Coughing or wheezing

✅ Helpful tips:
Wear a mask when working around heavy dust, shower and change clothes after outdoor exposure, keep windows closed when possible, and talk with your healthcare provider about allergy treatment if symptoms are interfering with your day.

⚠️ Seek medical care if you develop significant wheezing, shortness of breath, fever, severe sinus pain, or symptoms that continue to worsen.

❤️ LET’S TALK CHOLESTEROL! ❤️

High cholesterol often has NO symptoms, which means you may not know your numbers are elevated unless you get them checked.

🩸 KNOW YOUR NUMBERS

🔴 LDL – “Bad” Cholesterol
Too much LDL can contribute to plaque buildup in your arteries.

🟢 HDL – “Good” Cholesterol
Helps carry cholesterol away from the arteries.

🟡 Triglycerides
High levels can also increase cardiovascular risk.

💡 Ways to support healthier cholesterol levels:
🥗 Choose more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fiber
🐟 Include heart-healthy sources of fat
🚶🏽‍♀️ Stay physically active
🚭 Avoid smoking
⚖️ Work toward a healthy weight
💊 Take cholesterol medication as prescribed, if needed

⚠️ Don’t wait for symptoms.
A simple blood test called a lipid panel can check your cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Talk with your healthcare provider about how often you should be screened based on your age and individual risk factors.

❤️ SEPTEMBER IS PERIPHERAL ARTERY DISEASE (PAD) AWARENESS MONTH ❤️

Do your legs hurt or feel tired when you walk—but feel better when you rest? Don’t ignore it.

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) happens when narrowed arteries reduce blood flow, most commonly to the legs. PAD can also be a warning sign of increased risk for heart attack and stroke.

🦵 Know the possible signs:
• Leg pain or cramping with walking
• Numbness or weakness in the legs
• One foot feeling colder than the other
• Slow-healing sores on the feet or toes
• Changes in skin color
• Weak pulses in the feet

Your risk may be higher if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, a history of smoking, or older age.

🩺 This September, pay attention to your circulation. If you’re experiencing symptoms or have risk factors for PAD, talk with your healthcare provider about whether evaluation or screening is appropriate.

🍂 FALLS ARE PREVENTABLE! 🍂

September is a great time to talk about Fall Prevention & Safety, especially for older adults.

A fall can lead to serious injuries and loss of independence, but simple changes can help reduce the risk.

🏠 Make your home safer
• Remove loose rugs and clutter from walkways
• Keep halls, stairs, and bathrooms well-lit
• Install grab bars and handrails when needed

👟 Stay steady
• Wear supportive, non-slip shoes
• Stay active to maintain strength and balance
• Take your time when standing up or changing positions

💊 Review your health
• Ask about medications that may cause dizziness or drowsiness
• Keep vision and hearing checks up to date
• Talk with your healthcare provider if you’ve fallen or feel unsteady

⚠️ Don’t wait until a fall happens.
Fall prevention starts with recognizing your risks and making small changes today.

SEPTEMBER IS SICKLE CELL AWARENESS MONTH ❤️

Sickle cell disease is more than a blood disorder—it can affect the entire body and cause serious complications throughout a person’s life.

🩸 What is Sickle Cell Disease?
It is an inherited blood disorder that causes red blood cells to become hard, sticky, and sickle-shaped. These cells can block normal blood flow and prevent oxygen from reaching tissues.

⚠️ Possible complications include:
• Episodes of severe pain
• Anemia and extreme fatigue
• Frequent infections
• Acute chest syndrome
• Stroke
• Kidney and other organ complications

👶 Did you know?
Babies born in the United States are routinely screened for sickle cell disease as part of newborn screening.

❤️ KNOW YOUR STATUS. KNOW YOUR FAMILY HISTORY.

If you have sickle cell disease or sickle cell trait, regular healthcare visits and understanding your individual risks are important parts of staying healthy.

This September, let’s continue raising awareness, supporting individuals and families living with sickle cell disease, and encouraging our communities to learn their status.

💙 PROSTATE CANCER CAN BE SILENT 💙
September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

One of the most important things for men to know about prostate cancer is this:

👉 Early prostate cancer often causes NO symptoms.

That means feeling fine doesn’t always mean there’s nothing to discuss with your healthcare provider.

When symptoms do occur, they may include:

🔹 Trouble starting or stopping urination
🔹 Weak or interrupted urine flow
🔹 Urinating more often, especially at night
🔹 Blood in the urine or semen
🔹 Pain or burning with urination
🔹 Persistent pain in the back, hips, or pelvis
🔹 Erectile difficulties

⚠️ These symptoms can also be caused by conditions other than cancer, but they shouldn’t be ignored.

💙 EARLY DETECTION MATTERS.

A simple conversation about your age, family history, race, and other risk factors can help determine whether PSA testing or additional evaluation is appropriate for you.

🌾 In rural Louisiana, taking care of men’s health starts with making preventive care a priority.

This September, remind the men you love:

Don’t wait for symptoms.
Know your risk.
Have the conversation.
