Heat stroke is one of the most time-sensitive emergencies EMS clinicians encounter.

Recognizing severe heat illness early and initiating cooling before transport can dramatically improve outcomes. Remember: altered mental status in a heat-exposed patient is heat stroke until proven otherwise. Don't wait for a temperature—start cooling.

What cooling strategies does your EMS agency use when managing suspected heat stroke in the field?

The patient journey doesn't begin at the hospital—it begins with EMS.

Mary Noory, MD, Associate Trauma Medical Director at Saint Francis Hospital, reflects on the partnership between EMS and our trauma team and what Hospitality Is Our First Act of Care means in practice.

Hospitality is our first act of care—and for our EMS partners, that begins the moment you arrive.

We recognize that the care you provide in the field sets everything in motion, and we are committed to building on that work without disruption.

Through clear communication, strong coordination, and attention to every transition, we aim to create an arrival experience that reflects true partnership in care.

Ivan Sarmiento Jr., MSN, RN, Director of Emergency Services at Saint Francis Hospital shares how our team is prepared to receive both your patient and your clinical report with focus and respect.
