Robert Earl Skinner of Hartford, Alabama passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026, at his residence. He was 83 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Hartford with Rev. Red Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery under the direction of Shelby Lett of Bottoms Garden Chapel. The family will begin receiving friends at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, until service time.

Robert was born on June 23, 1943, in Hartford, Alabama and attended Geneva County High School. From an early age he developed a deep love for agriculture. Farming was never just his occupation, it was his way of life. He took great pride in working the land alongside his sons, Charlie and Jarvis, teaching them that the greatest harvest comes from faith, hard work and patience. When he wasn't farming, he enjoyed the outdoors and his beloved c**n dogs. Above all else, Robert loved his family and that love was evident in the life he lived and the sacrifices he made. His grandchildren and great grandchildren will always cherish the valuable lessons he taught, the values he instilled, and the countless memories they were blessed to share with him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adna Linus Skinner and Ora Myrtle Barrett Skinner; and siblings, Charlie Herman Skinner and Althea Skinner K***z.

Survivors include his children, Charlie (Brenda) Skinner and Jarvis (Susie) Skinner both of Hartford; grandchildren, Garrett (Ragan) Skinner, Brandon (Christen) Skinner, Matthew (Cayden) Skinner, Jonathan (Katelyn) Skinner, Jesse (Chance) Edberg; great grandchildren, Braxston Skinner, Banks Skinner, Everlyn Skinner, Piper Skinner, and Meredith Skinner; two sisters, Videra Hendrix and Myra Neal; along with several nieces and nephews.

Avis Wynell Tate Granger Prescott of Hartford, Alabama passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026 at her home surrounded by family. She was 86 years old.

She was born on November 18, 1939, in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Oliver and Lora Pate Tate. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Eddie Granger and second husband, Billy Curt Prescott; children, James Edward Granger and Danny Oliver Granger, and brother-in-law, Marcus Williams.

Survivors include her daughter, Lori (Charles) Coker; daughters-in-law, Stella (James) Granger and Lavelle (Danny) Granger; sister, Jeanette (Marcus) Williams; grandchildren, James (Kelly) Dice, Louise (Bob) Littlefield, Candice (Mark) Le Cocq, Renea (Kendalle) Myers, Shasta (Justin) Mccurley, Zack Granger, Justin (Britney) Coker, Travis (Hadley) Coker, Tate (Kim) Coker; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; niece, Misty Williams, and two nephews, Marc and Jamey Williams.

Edward Bascom “Buddy” Barnes Jr., known simply as “Buddy” to everyone who knew and loved him, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of faith, integrity, hard work, and unconditional love for his family. He was the kind of man whose quiet strength spoke louder than words. Gentle and kind by nature, he was also firm when the moment called for it, always guided by wisdom, fairness, and a deep sense of right and wrong.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Hartford with Bro. Baker Creel officiating and grandson, Trevor Barnes assisting. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery under the direction of Shelby Lett of Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, in the chapel of Bottoms Funeral Home-Hartford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Bascom Barnes, Sr. and Bessie Mae Cullifer Barnes; brothers, Dolpheus Barnes, Harold “Doc” Barnes, Foy Barnes, Mackie Barnes, and Lamar Barnes; and sisters, Carolyn Dean and Mary Smith.

Buddy faithfully served his country through the National Guard, retiring after many years of dedicated service with the National Guard unit in Hartford, Alabama. He also dedicated more than three decades of service to Fort Rucker, where he worked in several positions throughout his career. His commitment to duty was extraordinary. Upon his retirement, he was honored for an incredible accomplishment—never missing a single day of work in more than thirty years. That recognition reflected the loyalty, discipline, and dependability that defined his life.

Above all else, Buddy loved the Lord. His faith was evident in the way he treated people—with grace, humility, patience, and forgiveness. He was one of the most forgiving men anyone could hope to know, always willing to extend kindness and compassion.

He loved his family with all his heart. He was immensely proud of his sons, Mark and Greg, and treasured every moment with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also held a deep appreciation for his family’s heritage and believed in preserving the values and traditions that had been passed down through generations.

Buddy was a meticulous man who believed that anything worth doing was worth doing right. He had a lifelong passion for antiques, books, history, and collecting unique treasures. He loved to read and was always eager to learn something new. He also had the heart and mind of an inventor. He had a remarkable ability to take something that already worked and make it even better, using his creativity, resourcefulness, and determination to improve whatever was in front of him.

Those who knew Buddy will remember a man who was generous with both his time and his heart. He led by example, worked without complaint, forgave freely, loved deeply, and lived with quiet humility. He was the kind of man whose influence could be felt without ever demanding attention.

He is survived by his children, Greg (Rhonda) Barnes of Slocomb and Mark (Rose) Barnes of Hartford; grandchildren, Trevor (Alyson) Barnes, Jenna (Will) Hays, Holdon (Brittany) Barnes, Dalton Barnes, Donavon Barnes, Dillon Lunsford and Drake Lunsford; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Barnes, Brior Barnes, Harlow Barnes, Jayce Barnes, Wyatt Barnes, Kara Lunsford, and Paisleigh Lunsford; sister, Betty Sue Bottoms; along with several nieces and nephews.

Edward Bascom “Buddy” Barnes Jr. leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured by awards or accomplishments alone, but by the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the example he set every day. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

James Edward Hicks passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama. He was 83 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Hartford with Pastor Joey Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery under the direction of Shelby Lett of Bottoms Garden Chapel. The family will begin receiving friends on at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, until service time.

Jim was a kind and loving man. He had a love for reading. Gifted with his hands, he could fix just about anything. He was the best "handyman". Above all, Jim was truly an all-around good person who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lee and Sybil Pelham Hicks; sister, Nina Powell; and grandson, R.J. Greer.

Margie Eileen Bottoms of Hartford, Alabama passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, July 17, 2026. She was 85 years old.

Eileen was born on November 10, 1940 in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Don Stewart and Arnell Kirkland Stewart. She was a 1958 graduate of Geneva County High School. She married her late husband, Jimmy, on April 2, 1960.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Hazel Stewart; mother, Arnell Stewart, husband of 63 years, Jimmy Bottoms; sister, Georgia Burke, niece Pam Guidry; and great nephew Luke Stewart.

She was one of the hardest-working people anyone could have known. She enjoyed working with the public. Early in her career, she worked for the Geneva County Reaper. In 1992, she began working at the Geneva County Courthouse, serving in the Sheriff's office before becoming Director of the Solid Waste Department, a position she held until her retirement in 2020. All the while, she helped her husband run the funeral business and the family farm. As a devoted wife, she faithfully stood by her husband through life’s joys and challenges. As a loving mother, she gave endlessly of herself, including caring for her youngest son with remarkable strength, compassion, and sacrifice. She had a generous heart and never hesitated to help someone in need. She truly would have given the shirt off her back if she thought someone needed it. Her kindness was matched only by her honesty. She spoke her mind with confidence, and her grandchildren always laughed when she finished a thought with: “But that’s not my business.” You never had to wonder what she was thinking. While her words were often direct, those who loved her understood they always came from a place of genuine care, concern, and love.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026 at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Hartford, Alabama. Burial will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery under the direction of her granddaughter, Shelby Lett. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She is survived by her children, Tim Howard Bottoms and Joseph Andrew Bottoms both of Black, Alabama; grandchildren, Stewart and Stephanie Bottoms of Black and Shelby and Desmond Lett of Hartford; great grandchildren, Shelton Joseph Bottoms, Eli James Lett, Ian Mace Lett, Ellis Earl Lett, and Ivy Jo Lett; brothers, Danny Ray Stewart (Judy) of Black and Ronnie Dale Stewart (Peggy) of Hartford; nieces, Lachelle Stewart, Kiley Cassady, Tracey Stewart and nephews, Ryan Stewart and Keith Collins; a very special aunt, JoAnn Lauderdale

Though she will be deeply missed, we find comfort in the thought that she is healed and reunited with her beloved Jimmy. The example she set through a life lived with purpose, compassion, and strength will live on through the family she cherished. Her love and memory will remain in our hearts forever.

Annie Faye Britt of Geneva, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Wiregrass Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Geneva. She was 90 years old.

Faye was born on March 17, 1936, in Geneva, Alabama to the late Robert Lester Britt and Bertha Ausley Britt. She was a sweet, soft spoken, and faithful Christian lady. She was very active in her church and was always reading her Bible. She enjoyed watching westerns and playing dominos. She was active with the Senior Citizens and participated in their traveling and activities. Above all, she loved her family and was considered another grandmother by her nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Geneva.

Survivors include her sisters, Christine Perkins and Carolyn Carter; brother, R. L. Britt, Jr. (Linda); several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Mr. Ricky Vickers of Hartford, Alabama passed away on Monday, July 6, 2026, at his residence. He was 69 years old.

He was born on August 6, 1956, in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Samuel and Edna Brooks Vickers.

In addition to his parents, Ricky was also preceded in death by his wife, Sandy Lee Vickers; and brother-in-law, Jerry Fleming.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Highfalls Assembly of God Church in Hartford.

Survivors include his children, Christina Lynn Pardue, Mark Lee Lincks, and Ricky Samuel Brooks Vickers, Jr.; grandchildren, Alexis Moreno and Mikayla Grace Lincks; great grandchildren, Geraldine Moreno and Adam Moreno; siblings, Gary Vickers (Martha), Janie Shepard (Johnny), and Patsy Fleming; along with several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bobby Crumpler and Mike Walton.

Ricky was a good man and a faithful follower of Christ. Until the end, he was committed to spreading the Gospel. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

She was born on July 27, 1947, to the late Odell Benefield and Eloise Newdiger.

In addition to her mother, Eloise, she was also preceded in death by her son, Greg Alberson and sisters, Julie Benefield and Joan Ballard.

Walter Frank Lunsford passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at his residence. He was 59 years old.

Frank was born on November 17, 1966, in Dothan, Alabama, to the late Walter Raybon and Ruth Evelyn Lunsford.

Frank was a good man. He enjoyed fishing. He adored his "Lisa Jenny". He was especially proud of his children. He always looked forward to Thursday night suppers with his family and getting to babysit Ava.

Ms. Annie Merle Godwin of Black, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Flowers Hospital. She was 75 years old.

Annie was born on November 23, 1950, to the late James M. Bridges and Lizzy Jane Lee Chancey. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Jason Mims and siblings, Donald Bridges, Sr., Emmett Bridges, and Linda Jenkins and honorary son-in-law, Nicky Hobbs.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Freedom Christian Fellowship Church (774 Burnt Street Black, Alabama 36314) with Bro. Phil Baxley officiating.

Annie has been an honorary Hobbs for several years. She was feisty and opinionated, loving, and once she claimed you as hers, there was no going back. Annie was generous, almost to a fault. She loved giving gifts all throughout the year and not just on special occasions. She never wanted to miss a celebration. She loved spending birthdays and holidays surrounded by family. Annie had a deep and profound love for animals and was survived by her beloved Maltese, "Buddy". She had a unique passion for gemstones, loved plants and flowers, and could make anything grow.
