This beautiful beach near Milwaukee was an amazing spot for a picnic! Although the weather was much milder than here in South Carolina, it was still too warm to travel with a regular salad. I love to make roasted vegetable salads which can be combined with heartier fresh veggies like carrots and tomatoes and a base of rice or quinoa for a light summer lunch.

Nature is one of our greatest healers and is full of wonders to explore! Sadly many people never venture out because they lack the experience and knowledge to feel confident in the wilderness. "Digital adventures" are easy to come by, but they do not exercise your body or feed your soul! This adventure camp for kids (parents are welcome to come too) is an amazing opportunity to learn essential outdoor skills like starting a fire, obtaining water, building a shelter, and learning how not to get lost in the woods. This experience will nurture your child's love of the outdoors, and hopefully yours too! Right here in Hartsville at Narrow Way Nature Center, morning or evening sessions available 🤩

I love this time of year when the elder trees are in full bloom! I am making an elderflower oxymel, which is a delicious drink concentrate made with raw apple cider vinegar and honey. Just a splash in a glass of cold water is so refreshing on a hot summer day!

The Medicines from the Earth Symposium in Black Mountain nourished my soul this weekend with plant walks, inspiring lectures, and much-needed time with fellow naturopaths. This conference goes beyond just fulfilling my continuing education requirements, it is something I look forward to every year! I love Teresa Boardwine's classes and her famous herbal elixirs and bonbons. I agree with her philosophy that taking care of yourself (and others) with herbal medicine should be joyful and delicious experience 😍🌿Green Comfort School of Herbal Medicine

I had way too much fun in Bordeaux, and no, it was not just because of the wine! France is a food-lover's paradise: crusty bread, gourmet cheeses, creamy sauces, and of course exquisite pastries. The lovely friends who invited us for lunch are part of a community-owned organic winery, so I had to show off the fruit of their labors 😉. I love the long, relaxed meals that are part of the "slow food" culture there. I studied abroad in Bordeaux many years ago, and I still remember the pleasant culture shock when I was invited to a college party where cooking and eating together was the focus!

I love having my office at the Black Creek Arts Center, it is such a lovely historical building and a vibrant arts community, gathering place, and teaching hub in our small town. But with old buildings repairs are always needed. Please help us get the AC running again if you are able!

The fresh food in Europe was so amazing! This is the Capucins Market in Bordeaux, which is a vibrant covered market place with many specialized vendors. Even in the regular grocery stores they put the fruits and veggies in the center rather than on the perimeter. Does that tell you anything?
