Michigan's proposed HB 6022 threatens to burden our healthcare system with administrative hurdles that pull clinicians away from patient care. By involving multiple private Medicaid insurance companies in pre-admission screenings, the bill introduces varying standards for care approval. Instead of a streamlined process, non-CMH clinicians will need to fill out complicated assessment tools and adhere to lengthy intake procedures.

Time spent navigating bureaucratic procedures and insurance-specific standards is time taken away from patients in crisis. Protect clinicians and patients—oppose HB 6022.

Michigan's proposed HB 6022 creates a poor patient experience for individuals seeking care while simultaneously increasing healthcare costs.

By taking a pre-admission screening process that currently works 98.5% of the time and dividing responsibilities among multiple entities, the bill creates more handoffs and confusion over who is responsible for patients. As a result, vulnerable people will wait longer for care.

By current Michigan law, Community Mental Health Associations (CMHs) are the only organizations allowed to perform pre-admission screenings. The CMH’s are contractually obligated to complete these screenings within three hours of a hospital contract.

Proposed legislation HB 6022 seeks to dismantle this functioning framework. When a public system consistently hits a 98.5% success rate across thousands of annual cases, we should protect it, not disrupt it. Oppose HB 6022.
