I've had three patient conversations recently that all started the same way. Each of these people had been carrying a serious health concern for years — a constant source of pain and worry that wore on them year after year. Being passed from specialist to specialist without real answers or direction only deepened their frustration, and at times, their sense of abandonment. They were worn out. They felt like they couldn't carry it anymore.
I never offer false hope. I always give a balanced assessment and tell my patients only what I actually know. But I do often find clear, specific paths toward better health — paths that have simply been overlooked. And a real plan, even a small one, tends to give patients something powerful: hope, and a renewed focus on doing what needs to be done to reach their health goals.
All that said — there is a Physician who knows their pain, knows their struggles, and holds more wisdom than their cardiologist, endocrinologist, and family doctor combined. This Great Physician is available 24 hours a day, still makes house calls, and holds your next breath — and mine — in His hands. Fortunately, this Great Physician is my friend. And He's not just my friend. He can be yours too.
I don't understand why some are healed and some are not. What I do know is that we all have an expiration date, and that all of us need to get right with the Great Physician. And while we're here, we should strive for better health — so we have the strength and the years to be the teacher, the butcher, the lawyer, or the preacher He wants us to be.
There are people in your inner circle right now, today, who need you to reach out to them in a real and intimate way. They need a gentle, loving acknowledgment of their pain — maybe a hug, maybe just a note that lets them know at least one person cares. The Great Physician is calling all of us to go out and be that support, that act of kindness. And perhaps, through your effort, the Great Physician will use you to bring a little more light into someone's darkest week.
