Let's demystify Yoga Nidra
What is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra is a meditative practice that originated in India thousands of years ago. It is a guided experience that helps lead you into deep rest and relaxation, or "yogic sleep", which is a conscious wakeful sleep.
How does Yoga Nidra work?
>Yoga Nidra can be done seated or lying down (no complicated poses)
>The practice uses a physical body scan, breath awareness and visualization to help take the brain out of thinking and planning mode
>Many meditation practices help you relax, but Yoga Nidra is unique in that it uses a highly structured approach to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, slow brain waves to a state that is analogous to deep sleep (delta wave state), and aid the body in recovery and healing.
Yoga Nidra helps:
>improve mood and concentration
>reduce stress
>reduce anxiety and depression
>alleviate insomnia
>lower blood pressure and regulate heart rate
>correct hormone imbalance
