Mississippi INBRE Mississippi INBRE's mission is to enhance the biomedical research foundation in Mississippi.

Mississippi INBRE, directed by Dr. Alex Flynt, a professor at The University of Southern Mississippi, is a statewide program that is supported by an award from the National Institutes of General Medical Sciences. Their mission is to enhance the biomedical foundation in Mississippi and to reach out to Mississippians in order to improve health throughout the state. Mississippi INBRE seeks to engage

Meet Aiden Allred, Mississippi INBRE Scholar.

Aiden attends Itawamba Community College. He will be starting his Sophomore year in their ADN nursing program. This will help him work towards his future career goal as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). He also hopes to minor in Spanish to make his practice open to more individuals in the south who deserve quality psychiatric services.

Lemly is currently working on getting her bachelor’s degree in Biology-Research at Mississippi Christian University Anything in her future is far from set-in-stone, as such she am trying to take various internships to get a more informed idea with what she wants to do with her life. Her primary goal is to find a job that she will not dread walking into each day.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended the Fifth Annual Mississippi IDeA/EPSCoR Conference (MIEC26) held today at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi!

Co-hosted by Mississippi INBRE and Mississippi EPSCoR, MIEC26 brought together STEM researchers, faculty, students, healthcare professionals, public health leaders, and industry stakeholders from across the state for a day of learning, collaboration, and discovery.

From engaging oral presentations and student poster sessions to networking opportunities and professional development activities, the conference showcased the incredible talent, innovation, and dedication driving STEM research in Mississippi. The energy, enthusiasm, and exchange of ideas throughout the day made this a truly successful event.

Thank you to our presenters, attendees, organizers, volunteers, and partners for helping make MIEC26 such a meaningful and impactful experience. We look forward to continuing to strengthen Mississippi's research infrastructure and fostering new collaborations that advance science, innovation, and public health.

Meet Hannah Berryman, Mississippi INBRE Scholar.

Hannah is currently pursuing a degree in Animal and Dairy Sciences with a minor in Pre-Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University. Before transferring, she attended Itawamba Community College, where she built a strong academic foundation. Her goal is to earn her bachelor's degree, attend veterinary school, and ultimately become a veterinarian. Hannah excited to continue her education and work toward a career dedicated to animal welfare!

Samuel is an undergraduate Biological: Medical Sciences major at Mississippi Christian University. Through clinical shadowing and academic experiences, he have developed a strong interest in medicine, biomedical research, and improving healthcare outcomes in Mississippi. Alena is an undergraduate Biochemistry major at Mississippi Christian University. Her passion lies at the intersection of chemical research and legal protection, and her goal is to transition into the intellectual property field. After graduation, she plans to pass the Patent Bar Exam to become a registered Patent Agent, specializing in protecting innovations in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and environmental chemical sciences. He has always been fascinated by the human body and believes it is an incredible gift from God.
