Juneteenth commemorates the moment on June 19, 1865, when Union Soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the freedom of enslaved people more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation took effect. Today we honor the immortal words of the Declaration of Independence:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
As children of God, may we never be late in delivering love, mercy, kindness and especially freedom to all humans everywhere.
