Hometown HOPE Inc. recently wrapped up its seasonal Fall HOPE Closet initiative, bringing joy and a unique shopping experience directly to long-term care residents. This wonderful, non-profit mobile boutique travels to senior living facilities, transforming common rooms into pop-up shops.
Residents are invited to browse rows of gently used men's and women's apparel and select five free items of their choice, along with books, jewelry, and puzzles. The program offers more than just clothing; it provides a sense of independence and dignity to residents who may no longer have the opportunity to go out shopping. Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers that make this happen!

Fall is officially in the air, and that means it’s pumpkin season! We had a wonderful afternoon as the Hawley Girl Scouts stopped by to paint pumpkin gourds with our residents. The room was bursting with color, smiles, and so much creativity! A huge thank you to the Girl Scouts for spending time with us—everyone had an absolute blast bridging the generations through art.

Today, our residents completed their beautiful "Chickadee in an Apple Tree" acrylic painting and the final pieces look absolutely great!
Along with painting, we shared a fascinating discussion about the chickadee's famous "chick-a-dee-dee-dee" call. It turns out these little birds have a highly advanced alarm system. The number of "dees" at the end of their call tells other birds exactly how dangerous a nearby predator is. For example, a larger, slower hawk might only get two "dees," while a fast, highly dangerous screech owl can trigger a flurry of up to twenty! It's always fun to learn interesting facts!

Hearts and hands across generations. Today, Hawley High School sophomores from Peter Naatz’s Community Health Promotion class spent a wonderful afternoon playing beanbags with our residents. The room was full of energy, great competition, and plenty of cheering. This marks the first of their weekly fall semester visits, and we can’t wait to see what's in store for us!

What a fantastic week celebrating National Assisted Living Week! Our community was filled with laughter and smiles as we got to know each other better through a human scavenger hunt, played high-stakes games of Daily Bingo for awesome gift cards, and showed off our style dressing up as cowboys and our favorite sports teams. Of course, we made sure to satisfy our sweet tooth with delicious banana splits and root b**r floats! Kareoke was enjoyed by all! A huge thank you to all the residents and staff for participating and making this week so incredibly special!

Today was a wonderful trip down memory lane! We spent the morning exploring the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion (WMSTR) in Rollag, taking in all the incredible old tractors, steam engines, and working horses. The absolute highlight of the day was riding the train "to nowhere," which takes you on a full loop all the way around the show grounds.
A huge thank you to Merlin Meyer of Gary, MN, for giving us such a fantastic tour of the grounds and making the day so special!
