St. John's Wort, you are a total babe! Beautiful inside & out. This beautiful plant has an affinity for the sun! And for your suburban neighbors to think its a noxious w**d (thank God we will live in the country now) . But that's okay - they'll learn some day that this five petaled golden gift was used by Hippocrates to treat cuts and burns. When crushed, the golden flower gives way to a dark red liquid which was nicknamed the "blood of Christ" and was used to heal wounds during the crusades. Medieval herbalists used the infused oil (which turns red when using fresh St. John's Wort) to stop bleeding and heal nerve damage. ☀️

Although externally it can heal sunburns, ingested internally it increases your sensitivity to the sun and has been prescribed for SAD or melancholy in the winter. (Caution: do NOT take if you are on antidepressants or pregnant).

St. John's Wort is a flower worth knowing and harvesting! And it makes an appearance in the first chapter of my novel (under a different name but you'll know the plant by its description). ☀️

Getting ready to lead a journaling event tonight. This July, I’m gonna have a garden party celebration. So, I’m counting my inventory to see what I would need to purchase.
