He knew he didn't have much time left. And he had something he wanted to do with it. 🦋

When our historian Sara Jane visited, he had a question ready for her: "Can you help me write my obituary?"

Sara Jane didn't just say yes.
She asked him how he wanted his story to be told.
She read him examples so he could hear the shape of it.
They talked for a long time about the details of his life, what mattered, what he wanted people to remember.

He didn't grow up with much. But he had lived a full and meaningful life, and he wanted to leave with his story told right.

That conversation was a gift. For him, and for everyone who gets to hear it.

From the very first visit, our nurse Sonora was asking questions.
Not just about symptoms or medications. About the person. What did he enjoy? What did he used to do? What made him who he is?

Someone else at the facility noticed. And they said something that has stuck with our whole team:
"That's why we like Auburn Crest."
It's a small moment. But it says everything about the kind of care we try to bring into every room. Our patients are not a body and a diagnosis. They are a whole life, and they deserve to be treated that way.

We've been told we're the only hospice that cares for more than just our patients.

That means the family in the waiting room. The staff at the facility down the hall. The daughter flying back to California who needed to know her mom was in good hands before she got on that plane.

She left feeling like she was leaving her mom with friends.
