π G3 AURORA WATCH TONIGHT! π
A strong G3 geomagnetic storm is being monitored, and if conditions line up just right, portions of the northern and central United States could have a chance to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights tonight.
The best viewing opportunities will be across the northern tier of states, but during stronger bursts, the aurora can sometimes push farther south than forecast. If youβre located in the red or orange shaded areas on this map, it may be worth stepping outside after dark and looking toward the northern horizon.
π Best viewing tips:
β’ Get away from city lights if possible
β’ Find a location with a clear view to the north
β’ Allow your eyes 15-20 minutes to adjust to the darkness
β’ Use your phone cameraβsometimes it can pick up colors that are difficult to see with the naked eye
Keep in mind that aurora visibility depends on cloud cover, storm strength, and exact timing. Not everyone within the highlighted zones will see the lights, but tonight could offer a rare opportunity for some lucky skywatchers.
Have you ever seen the Northern Lights before? If so, where did you see them? πβ¨
