"Everyone's doing it."
Are they though? 👀

According to the California Department of Education, nearly 9 out of 10 juniors in Alameda County reported not using alcohol, ma*****na, or any other drugs in the past 30 days.

Only 5% of 11th graders report current ma*****na use. Just 10% report any substance at all.

So the next time it feels like the whole school is doing something? The math says otherwise. The crowd you're picturing is way smaller than you think.

You're not the odd one out for opting out. You're the majority.

Last month the Project Eden Team showed up across Alameda County.

At the Brenkwitz High School Wellness Fair, we sat down with students to have honest conversations about substance misuse, answer questions, and to let them know that is the real norm for their community.

Then we teamed up with Tiburcio Vazquez Health Center for a bilingual presentation for parents and guardians to learn how to have open conversations about substance misuse with their children. The presentation took place at Tennyson High School where we also spoke about spotting new paraphernalia, decoding the emojis hiding in plain sight on social media, and the 80/20 method: 80% listening, 20% talking.

Hey Alameda County high school seniors! Did you know that 58.3% of 12th graders have not abused alcohol?

While conversations around teen substance use often focus on the negative, it’s important to recognize that the majority of teens are making healthy choices every day.

Still, for the 41.7% who have struggled with alcohol use, the reasons often go deeper than people realize: stress, pressure, anxiety, loneliness, or trying to fit in.

If this hits close to home, you’re not alone, and there are healthier ways to cope that actually help long-term. Learn more about prevention and get in contact at https://www.horizonservices.org/project-eden-new/

You don't actually know what's in that cart.

Lab tests on carts across California have come back with vitamin E acetate, synthetic cannabinoids, and pesticides not approved for human contact.

ICUs from Oakland to LA have logged cases of teens landing there because of carts that "looked fine." The website looked real. The packaging looked clean. "Natural" is the easiest part to fake.

The results are in! Saying no to smoking ma*****na is kind of a flex right now.

In Alameda County, a 95% combined average of students in 7th, 9th, and 11th grade have never vaped or smoked ma*****na.

Most teens in the area aren't smoking ma*****na. Most of them are actually building something — a sport, a craft, a playlist. The actual cool kids aren't the ones watching their friends ghost in and out of conversations on carts. They're tapped in.

The new social currency? Actually remembering what happened last weekend. Interested in learning more about our Youth Programs and how you can build a better you? Visit https://www.horizonservices.org/project-eden-new/ to get started.

A clear mind changes everything.

When your thoughts aren't racing, when you're not stuck overthinking or carrying everything at once, you start to feel lighter. More present. More like yourself.

A lot of people reach for a cart or a joint hoping it'll get them there faster. But ma*****na doesn't actually clear the noise, it just dulls you to it. The anxiety, the overthinking, the heaviness? It's all still waiting when the high wears off. Sometimes louder than before.

Real clarity doesn't come from clouding your mind. It comes from clearing it.

That's where therapy comes in. It gives you the space to sort through what you're carrying, understand your thoughts, and build a mind that feels calmer — without anything you have to come down from.

You don’t have to do it alone. Contact us at https://www.horizonservices.org/project-eden-new/ to start clearing your mind.

Alameda County school district students, listen up! Your brain is still under construction at 16. 🚧

A recent Jama Network study showed that ma*****na use in teens significantly increases the risk of not only depression and anxiety, but also psychosis and bipolar disorder by age 26. But we know you know better!

After all, 78% of the Alameda County students we surveyed understand the negative long-term mental health impacts of substances like ma*****na. We just figured we’d check in so we can push for 100% 😉

There’s a difference between coping and numbing and most people were never taught it. 👇

Coping looks like exercising, calling someone you trust, writing it out, crying, or actually getting rest.

Numbing looks like va**ng just to quiet your thoughts, scrolling until 3am, or drinking at parties you didn’t even want to be at.

Numbing might feel easier in the moment but it doesn’t actually help. You don’t have to choose between feeling everything and feeling nothing. There’s a middle ground. And we're here to help you find it.
