โ˜€๏ธ Summer is harder on your car than most people realize.

That thermometer in the photo is sitting in a customer's A/C vent โ€” reading 82ยฐF. On a hot New Jersey summer day, a properly functioning A/C system should be blowing air significantly cooler than that. This vehicle needed attention.

Heat is one of the leading causes of vehicle problems this time of year โ€” and it affects more than just your A/C. Here are 5 things every driver should have checked before the hottest weeks hit:

๐Ÿ”ฒ Air conditioning โ€” If your A/C isn't keeping up, don't wait until July to find out why. We can diagnose and repair it.

๐Ÿ”ฒ Transmission fluid โ€” Heat accelerates fluid breakdown faster than almost anything else. Most vehicles today don't have a dipstick, so this requires a professional inspection.

๐Ÿ”ฒ Coolant โ€” Stop-and-go summer traffic combined with high temperatures puts your cooling system under serious stress. Low or degraded coolant can lead to overheating quickly.

๐Ÿ”ฒ Battery โ€” Heat is actually harder on batteries than cold weather. A battery that's borderline in the spring may fail entirely in the summer heat.

๐Ÿ”ฒ Tires โ€” Heat causes tire pressure to rise. Check your pressure regularly and look for signs of uneven wear.

Not sure where your vehicle stands on any of these? Schedule an appointment and our certified technicians will tell you exactly what needs attention and what can wait โ€” no pressure, no surprises.

If you've had your vehicle serviced here, we would be incredibly grateful if you took a few minutes to leave us a Google review. And here's what makes a review truly helpful for other drivers:

โญ Include the year, make, and model of your vehicle
โญ Describe what was wrong or what you came in for
โญ Share how we communicated the issue and recommendation to resolve
โญ Let others know how the experience was โ€” from drop-off to pick-up and that your concern was resolved.
โญ Mention anything that stood out โ€” our communication, turnaround time, or the quality of the repair

๐Ÿ”ง Quick question for Hazlet drivers:

When was the last time your transmission fluid was checked?

Most people know to check their oil. But transmission fluid is just as critical โ€” and far more often overlooked. And here's something many drivers don't know: most vehicles today don't have a transmission dipstick. Manufacturers have moved to "sealed" transmissions, which means checking the fluid requires a lift and the right equipment โ€” it's not something you can do in your driveway.

The photo shows used fluid on the left โ€” dark, broken down, and no longer protecting the transmission the way it should. On the right is fresh fluid from this particular transmission โ€” clean, clear, and doing its job. Note that new transmission fluid varies in color depending on the vehicle and transmission type โ€” your fluid may be red, green, blue, or amber when new. What matters is that it's clean and not degraded.

Regardless of what color your fluid is when new, here are the signs it needs attention:
๐Ÿ”ด Significantly darker than when last changed
๐Ÿ”ด Burnt smell
๐Ÿ”ด Gritty or dirty texture

If your transmission hasn't been serviced in a while โ€” or you simply don't know when it was last done โ€” it's worth having it checked by a professional.

Our certified technicians at Lee Myles will evaluate your specific vehicle and let you know exactly where things stand โ€” no pressure, no surprises.

โš ๏ธ This is what a neglected transmission looks like.
That dark, sludgy buildup inside this transmission pan is the result of fluid that was never serviced โ€” and it's one of the leading causes of transmission failure we see here at Lee Myles in Hazlet.
Here are 3 warning signs your transmission needs attention:
โœ… Sign #1 โ€” Your car hesitates or "slips" between gears, even briefly. Your transmission is struggling to hold a gear โ€” and it only gets worse.
โœ… Sign #2 โ€” You notice a burning smell, especially after highway driving. That's often overheated transmission fluid that has broken down and can no longer do its job.
โœ… Sign #3 โ€” You feel a shudder or vibration when accelerating from a stop. Many drivers assume it's the engine. Often, it's the transmission.
Here's the hard truth: regular transmission service is far less expensive than a rebuild or replacement. The cost difference can be significant โ€” and in many cases, failure is entirely preventable.
๐Ÿ‘‡ Drop a comment if you've experienced any of these โ€” we're happy to answer questions at no charge. And if you know someone driving an older vehicle, tag them below!

๐Ÿš— Heading into Memorial Day weekend? Don't let a car problem cut your plans short.

Before you hit the road, here are 3 quick things every driver should check:

โœ… Tire pressure โ€” Temperatures are rising, and under-inflated tires are a blowout risk on hot pavement. Takes 5 minutes at any gas station.

โœ… Coolant level โ€” Stop-and-go holiday traffic + summer heat = your cooling system working overtime. Low coolant can lead to overheating fast.

โœ… Brakes โ€” If you've noticed any squealing, grinding, or a soft pedal lately, now is the time โ€” not on the highway.

We're open Mondayโ€“Friday 8amโ€“5pm and can usually get you in quickly this week before the holiday weekend.

๐Ÿ“… Schedule your appointment online at https://www.hazletleemyles.com/appointments or give us a call โ€” we'll get you taken care of fast.

One of the more interesting parts of modern vehicle diagnosis is that the symptom a customer notices is not always the actual problem.

For example:

A customer may come in for a transmission concern that turns out to be an engine performance issue.

A vibration complaint may actually be tire related.

A warning light may be caused by wiring, not the component the code references.

Modern vehicles are extremely interconnected.

That is why proper diagnosis involves understanding how systems interact with each other โ€” not simply replacing the part most commonly associated with a code or symptom.

Getting to the correct answer sometimes means looking beyond the obvious.

05/18/2026

One of the most important things a repair shop can do is tell a customer the truth about their vehicle.

Not every problem is catastrophic.

Not every vehicle needs to be replaced.

And not every warning light means โ€œthrow parts at it.โ€

Sometimes a concern turns out to be smaller than expected.

Other times, a vehicle may have multiple issues developing at once that need to be prioritized properly.

That is why proper inspection and diagnosis matter.

Modern vehicles are too complex for guesswork, and vehicle owners deserve clear information so they can make informed decisions about repairs, maintenance, and the future of their vehicle.

Our goal has always been the same:

Identify the problem correctly.
Explain what is going on clearly.
Recommend repairs based on the actual condition of the vehicle.

No guessing.
No unnecessary repairs.
Just honest information and proper testing.

05/15/2026

One of the biggest mistakes drivers make is getting used to how their vehicle drives over time.

A slight vibration becomes โ€œnormal.โ€
The brakes slowly get noisier.
The steering feels a little different.
A small leak gets ignored.

Because the changes happen gradually, many people donโ€™t realize how much their vehicle has changed until something finally fails.

Most major repairs start as smaller problems first.

Addressing issues early usually means:

โ€ข Less damage
โ€ข Lower repair costs
โ€ข Less downtime
โ€ข More reliable transportation

Sometimes symptoms temporarily disappear, but the underlying problem often remains.

It usually just gets more expensive quietly.

If your vehicle doesnโ€™t feel, sound, or drive the way it used to, it may be worth having it checked before it becomes a bigger issue.

What Was the Best Vehicle You Ever Owned?

Every driver has one vehicle they still talk about.

Maybe it was:

The one that never broke down
The one that lasted forever
The one you regret selling
Or the one that somehow survived everything

Some vehicles become part of the family over the years.

Othersโ€ฆ teach expensive lessons.

Modern vehicles may be more advanced, but reliability, maintenance, and taking care of problems early still make the biggest difference in how long a vehicle lasts.

So letโ€™s hear it:

What was the best vehicle you ever owned?

Make, model, and how many miles did it make it to?
