The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services is working to develop Medicaid reimbursement for doula care. You can view the proposal from MT DPHHS here. There’s an opportunity to provide public comment to help inform what the Medicaid benefit will include. Public comment must be submitted to [email protected] by the end of Thursday, July 30th.

In collaboration with Montana Doulas and Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies The Montana Coalition, we have developed recommendations that we will be submitting to DPHHS. Please read the document at https://www.montanadoulacollaborative.org and send public comment to DPHHS encouraging them to support our recommendations.

Health care in the United States is increasingly team-based, and doulas—who often provide emotional, physical, and educational support for patients during birth, the postpartum period, and beyond—are valuable members of many care teams.

ACOG’s new clinical guidance encourages ob-gyn collaboration with doulas and gives ob-gyns the tools they need to better understand a doula’s role. It also highlights the importance of stronger partnerships between clinicians and doulas, which can provide vital support across the lifespan—including during and after pregnancy—and can lead to better patient outcomes.
