Governor Abbott signed SB8 into law on Monday, 9/22/25. The bill states that people must use the bathroom that corresponds with their s*x assigned at birth when using bathrooms in government buildings.

Restrictions in SB 8 will apply to public schools, universities and prisons and jails, along with other government buildings in Texas.

The only exceptions are for people accompanying children under 10, along with custodians, law enforcement, and medical workers.

- We do not know exactly how SB8 will be enforced.
- SB 8 on its own does NOT fine, arrest, or charge individuals accused of using what this law determines to be the “incorrect” facility. The fines are strictly for government-owned buildings.
- SB8 does not apply to private businesses.
If someone violates the law, the facility would be subject to a fine of $25,000 for the first offense and $125,000 for subsequent offenses. Complaints filed by private citizens could also be investigated by the state attorney general’s office.

SB8 will go into effect on 12/4/25.

I want to encourage people to continue to add restrooms to the website as they learn about gender neutral bathrooms/facilities.

This free info session will cover the latest legal updates for U.S. passports - which can now have the gender/s*x you want on it - including an “X.” This gender/s*x does not have to match the one on your ID/driver’s license or birth certificate and no special medical documentation is required. This legal relief is likely temporary so getting a new or updated passport with the gender you want listed on it now, may be your only opportunity to do so in the near future.

We look forward to explaining how to get a new or updated passport with the gender/s*x you want listed on it and answering your questions. We may also be able to provide financial help for you to get your new or updated passport if you attend this info session.
