After retiring, Irene Yaeck of Norwood Young America decided to become a hospice volunteer as a way to give back to others. What she didn't expect was how much she would receive in return. "I've learned so much about life and death through the stories and wisdom shared by hospice patients," Irene says. "Listening to their experiences has taught me to slow down, appreciate life and be present in the moment."

Whether sharing conversation, offering companionship, or simply being there to listen, hospice volunteers make a lasting difference in the lives of patients and families.

Ridgeview Hospice is currently seeking volunteers in the Ga***rd, Belle Plaine, Norwood Young America, Glencoe, and surrounding communities. Blood loss is one of the leading causes of preventable death after traumatic injury and Ridgeview Ambulance is helping improve patient outcomes by carrying units of packed red blood cells in its vehicles so paramedics can begin lifesaving transfusions before a patient reaches the hospital.

“Every minute counts when someone is critically injured,” said Mark Anderson, director, Ridgeview Ambulance. “Research shows that even a one-minute delay in lifesaving trauma care can increase 30-day mortality by 2%. By carrying blood, we can start replacing what patients have lost sooner and give them a better chance to survive — which is especially important in our most rural areas with longer transport times.”

Thanks to philanthropic support from generous donors, Ridgeview Ambulance is one of 400 ambulance services nationwide carrying blood products in the field and the first hospital-based ambulance service in the southwest metro to offer this advanced level of emergency care.

Ridgeview Ambulance paramedics began carrying blood in June 2026 and already lives have been impacted.

Congratulations to Ridgeview’s Brooke Dingels, RN, PCS, who was selected to throw the ceremonial first pitch at Minnesota Twins Nurse Night on Sept. 14 at Target Field. Brooke was chosen to represent nurses across Minnesota, an honor she says belongs to her entire team. "Like the game of baseball and like the game of life, no one gets very far playing a solo position. It takes a team. I wouldn't be the nurse, leader or person I am today without the incredible teammates who have stood and played beside me through every inning and every season of my nursing career," Brooke shared.

More than 30 Ridgeview colleagues attended the game to support and cheer on Brooke.
