I ordered Refocused Psychotherapy and somehow ended up with a signed copy by Dr. Nicholas Cummings, founder of my doctoral institute, personally inscribed to Victor Yalom, who passed away earlier this year.

Of all the copies out there, this one found its way to me.

Such an incredible piece of psychotherapy history for my clinical library!

July 24 is International Self-Care Day; a reminder that much of what supports our health happens through the everyday choices we make for ourselves and our families.

Created by the Global Self-Care Federation, the 2026 campaign recognizes self-care as a key part of prevention: preventing illness, supporting early detection, improving quality of life, and reducing unnecessary interventions.

Self-care is not selfish. What is one small way you can care for yourself today?

Have you ever been told to “just practice self-care,” but even the ...

Wounded Warrior: Project Odyssey 2026 (Bend, Oregon)
Honored to have served as a facilitator for my first Wounded Warrior Project Odyssey retreat. It was a privilege to witness the courage, resilience, and genuine connection shared throughout the week. Thank you to the participants, fellow facilitators, and staff for making this such a meaningful experience. To protect participants' privacy, faces have been cropped or omitted from these photos.

Honored to share this journey with you all. 🇺🇸

"It Didn't Start with You: How Inherited Family Trauma Shapes Who We Are and How to End the Cycle" by Mark Wolynn.

1. Severe trauma can lead to negative behavior and feelings, even when the trauma isn't your own.
2. Personal traumas can be passed on to successive generations via genes and behavior.
3. Resolving parent-child relationships is critical to breaking the cycle of trauma.
4. Discover underlying fears or trauma by finding the correct language to illuminate their true nature.
5. Your deepest fears can help point you toward the source of trauma in your family history.
6. Free yourself from inherited trauma by making peace with your past and your family's past.

🧠 May is Mental Health Awareness Month

One thing I often remind clients is that mental health is not just about “feeling better.” It’s also about understanding ourselves more clearly - our patterns, stress responses, relationships, emotions, and the ways we’ve learned to survive difficult experiences.

📚 One book I frequently recommend is The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk, MD.

It offers insight into how trauma and chronic stress can affect both the mind and body, while also highlighting that healing is possible through connection, awareness, and evidence-based treatment approaches.

Whether you’re beginning your mental health journey or continuing deeper therapeutic work, education can be a powerful starting point.

What’s one mental health resource - book, podcast, practice, or lesson that has stayed with you?
