Collagen is one of the most popular supplements for women in midlife—but it’s also one of the most misunderstood.
Here’s what the science tells us:
✔️ Your body naturally makes collagen, but production begins to decline in your 30s.
✔️ Around perimenopause and menopause, that decline accelerates as estrogen levels fall.
✔️ Collagen provides structure and strength to your skin, bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissues.
✔️ A healthy diet with adequate protein and vitamin C supports your body’s collagen production.
✔️ Collagen supplements may provide modest improvements in skin hydration, skin elasticity, and joint comfort—but they’re not a miracle anti-aging treatment.
The biggest takeaway? No supplement can replace the fundamentals. Prioritize protein, strength training, quality sleep, and healthy lifestyle habits. Collagen can be one piece of the puzzle, but it isn’t the whole picture.

Do you take collagen? Have you noticed a difference? I’d love to hear your experience in the comments.

LDL tells you how much cholesterol is being carried. ApoB helps tell you how many plaque-forming particles are carrying it.
That difference can matter — especially when LDL looks “normal” but cardiovascular risk may still be higher than expected.
ApoB is a simple blood test and can be checked along with your regular cholesterol panel and Lp(a) for a more complete assessment of cardiovascular risk.

Menopause doesn’t happen all at once — it moves through stages, and each one comes with its own signals.
Perimenopause can start as early as your 30s. Menopause itself is a single point in time — 12 months without a period, usually around 51-52. And postmenopause is where long-term health, not just symptoms, becomes the focus.
Knowing which stage you’re in helps you know what to actually ask for at your next appointment.
Swipe through, and save this for when you need it. 💗

Systemic hormone therapy and vaginal estrogen are not interchangeable—they treat different symptoms.
If your healthcare provider prescribed both, there’s usually a reason. If you ever receive conflicting advice or aren’t sure why you’re taking a medication, ask your healthcare provider before stopping it.
Your treatment plan should be based on your symptoms, not a one-size-fits-all approach.

Have you ever had your Lp(a) checked?

Lp(a) is a largely inherited risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Because levels usually remain stable, most adults only need this test once.

A high level does not mean you will develop heart disease—but it may mean your other risk factors should be managed more aggressively.

Midlife is a good time to make sure it has been checked.

“BI-RADS 2” and “Category B” may sound similar, but they are not the same thing.
BI-RADS tells you what the radiologist found on your mammogram.
Breast density tells you what your breast tissue looks like.
These are two completely different parts of your mammogram report, and confusing them can lead to unnecessary worry—or false reassurance.
Remember:
✔️ BI-RADS 1 & 2 = Benign findings
✔️ Breast density is reported separately
✔️ Category B is not considered dense breasts
✔️ Dense breasts are Categories C and D
Understanding your mammogram report empowers you to ask the right questions and make informed decisions about your breast health.

My daughter sent me this from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and I thought it was fascinating.

I love how anatomy is transformed into fashion. The uterus, ovaries, heart, lungs, and intestines all become part of the garment. They’re all simply organs that make up the human body, yet the reproductive organs are often the ones we hesitate to talk about.

As a gynecologist, I loved seeing them represented so openly through art. Constructed from fabric rather than plastic or silicone, the piece also highlights how beautifully layered and intricate the human body truly is.

Not all genetic tests answer the same questions.
If cancer runs in your family, the right test—and the right interpretation—can make all the difference. Before relying on an at-home test, talk with your healthcare provider or a genetics professional.
