Taking care of your heart doesn't have to mean making big changes overnight. 💙

Small, consistent habits can make a difference, but as we get older, keeping up with healthy routines isn't always easy.

That's where having the right help at home can make a difference.

At Right at Home, our caregivers help older adults maintain healthy routines through meal preparation, companionship, transportation to appointments, and encouragement to stay active and engaged.

Because healthy aging isn't just about living longer. It's about continuing to do the things you love.

Medicare Open Enrollment is here!

Even if you're happy with your current Medicare plan, it's worth taking another look.

Costs, prescription drug coverage, benefits, and provider networks can change from year to year. And as your healthcare needs change, the coverage that worked for you before may no longer be the best fit.

From October 15 through December 7, you can review your Medicare coverage and make changes for 2027.

Not sure where to start? Visit Medicare.gov to explore your options and find free resources to help you make an informed decision.

A familiar voice on the phone may not always be who you think it is.

Scammers can impersonate family members and create an urgent situation to convince an older adult to send money or share personal information.

One simple step can help: hang up and call your loved one directly using the number you already have.

This is also where having someone around can make a difference. A caregiver may notice an unusual call or request and encourage the person they care for to slow down, verify who they’re speaking with, or check with a family member before taking action.

It’s another way having a trusted presence at home can help families look out for the people they love.

A few weeks ago, members of the Right at Home corporate team had the opportunity to volunteer with The Furniture Project - Omaha, where service took many forms. Some assembled toddler beds, some shopped for families in need, and others helped prepare incoming donations for their next home.

We also had the chance to connect with founder Drew Gerken, who shared the story behind the organization and the ways our missions intersect. His commitment to helping people live with dignity in their homes reflects the same values that inspire the work we do every day. We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside an organization making such a meaningful impact in our community.

Checking in with an older loved one can tell you more than you might think.

Beyond asking, “How are you doing?” pay attention to how everyday life is going. Are meals still easy to prepare? Are they getting out and staying connected? Are they keeping up with medications and things around the house? Have you noticed any changes in their mobility?

These conversations don’t have to feel like a checklist. Sometimes spending a little time together and asking about their day is enough to notice when something has changed.

If everyday routines are becoming more difficult, it may be a sign that a little extra help at home could be beneficial.

When communicating with someone living with dementia, correcting isn’t always helpful.

Instead of saying, “Don’t you remember?” or “I already told you,” focus on reassurance, patience, and meeting them where they are.

Correct less. Connect more.

We stand in appreciation of the traditions, resilience, and wisdom of Indigenous communities. Caregiving has long been embraced as a sacred duty in Indigenous cultures, rooted in deep respect and care for elders, children, and community. At Right at Home, we deeply admire and honor that legacy and remain committed to care that reflects dignity, connection, and cultural understanding. 🧡🌿

The best way to combat ageism is to change how we think about aging.

Growing older is not about slowing down. It's about continuing to learn, connect, contribute, and find meaning in each new chapter. Today is Ageism Awareness Day; let's celebrate aging as a journey filled with purpose and possibility. 🧡

When Shalom Plotkin and his wife, Elise Braverman-Plotkin, returned to Cleveland in 2014, they did so with a personal mission. As Elise's father battled Parkinson's disease, the family experienced firsthand the importance of dependable, compassionate home care. They quickly realized how much of a difference the right support could make, not only for older adults but also for the loved ones caring for them. At the same time, they discovered there was no Right at Home serving Cleveland's east side. Inspired by their family's experience and a shared calling to help others, they opened their Right at Home office and began building a team dedicated to helping seniors live safely and independently wherever they call home.

Today, Right at Home Cleveland East and Right at Home Highland Heights offices proudly serve families throughout Cleveland's east side. For Shalom, whose background includes service as a military chaplain and counselor, the most rewarding moments are often the simplest: helping a client avoid a fall, stay on track with medications, enjoy a good meal, or simply have someone to talk with. He believes what truly sets their office apart is the strength of the relationships they build. Many caregivers and team members have been with the organization for years, providing the continuity, trust, and familiarity that clients and families value. Through ongoing training, caregiver support, and a culture that celebrates the people delivering care each day, Shalom and Elise have created a team focused on making a meaningful difference, one client, one caregiver, and one day at a time.
