🧠💗 Could Your Dental Health Be Contributing to Your Headaches or Migraines?
Have you ever woken up with a pounding headache, sore jaw, or unexplained tension around your temples?
You might be surprised to learn that certain dental problems can contribute to headaches and facial pain and sometimes overlap with symptoms experienced by people who suffer from migraines.
At my Henderson, NV dental practice, I believe understanding the connection between oral health and overall well-being is an important part of personalized patient care.
✨ 4 Dental Concerns That May Be Connected to Headaches
🦷 Teeth Grinding (Bruxism): Clenching or grinding your teeth, especially during sleep, can strain the jaw muscles and contribute to morning headaches.
💗 TMJ Disorders: Problems involving the temporomandibular joints and surrounding muscles may cause temple pain, facial discomfort, jaw clicking, and tension-type headaches.
🦷 Dental Infections: An infected or abscessed tooth can produce pain that radiates into the jaw, face, or head.
💗 Jaw Muscle Tension: Chronic clenching and overworked chewing muscles may contribute to recurring discomfort.
But here's an important distinction: Not every headache is caused by a dental problem, and dental treatment is not a cure for migraines.
Migraines are complex neurological conditions. However, identifying and treating certain dental concerns may help reduce additional sources of pain and discomfort.
With more than 25 years of experience, I've learned that listening carefully to a patient's symptoms is just as important as examining their teeth.
My approach focuses on understanding the whole picture, identifying possible contributing factors, and recommending conservative, individualized care.
💕 Sometimes, understanding your headaches begins with looking beyond your head.
