The Heart of ABA isn’t just about behavior analysis. It’s about the people behind it. 💚

There are the moments everyone sees...

Parent coaching.

Assessments.

Celebrating new skills.

Watching a child accomplish something they once thought they couldn’t.

And then there are the moments that happen behind the scenes...

🧩 Rearranging your schedule for the third time that day.

🌙 Reviewing data late at night to make sure tomorrow’s decisions are guided by today’s progress.

🌱 Reflecting on the kind of BCBA and leader you want to become—not just the skills you want to learn.

These illustrations were inspired by the everyday experiences that so many behavior analysts share.

Some are funny.

Some are exhausting.

Some are deeply meaningful.

But together, they remind me why I love this field.

Because behind every graph is a learner.

Behind every treatment plan is a family.

And behind every BCBA is someone who is constantly learning, growing, and showing up for others.

I hope these pages make you smile, remind you that you’re not alone, and celebrate the work that often happens long after everyone else has gone home.

💚 One of my biggest goals as a BCBA isn't for a child to succeed with me. It's for them to succeed without me.

That's why parent coaching has always been one of my favorite parts of this work.

Real, lasting progress doesn't happen in a few hours of therapy each week.

It happens during breakfast conversations.

While getting ready for school.

During playtime.

At the grocery store.

At bedtime.

In all of the ordinary moments that make up everyday life.

Parents know their children better than anyone else. When caregivers feel supported, confident, and empowered, the opportunities for learning extend far beyond our sessions.

Our role isn't to create dependence.

It's to help families build the confidence and skills they need so they can continue growing long after we're gone.

Whether we're teaching communication, emotional regulation, daily living skills, or even riding a bike, the goal is the same:

Support enough that the child can eventually succeed without us.

Every small moment matters.

Every opportunity to connect matters.

And every bit of progress—no matter how small—is worth celebrating.

🌱 Being a great BCBA isn't about having all the answers. It's about never stopping the pursuit of becoming better.

The behavior analysts who leave the greatest impact aren't the ones who know everything—they're the ones who stay curious, ask thoughtful questions, reflect, learn from feedback, and lead with compassion.

Growth doesn't happen overnight.

It happens one conversation.
One client.
One family.
One ethical decision.
One moment of reflection at a time.

The best behavior analysts understand that our greatest tool isn't a protocol or an assessment—it's our willingness to keep learning.

💚 Progress over perfection.
💙 Lead with compassion.
🩵 Stay curious.
💜 Stay rooted in your values.

Because the goal isn't to become a perfect BCBA.

It's to become the BCBA your clients need.

💚 We don't teach coping skills in the middle of the storm—we teach them before the storm arrives.

Just like we wouldn't wait until a child is in the deep end to teach them how to swim, we shouldn't wait until they're overwhelmed to introduce coping strategies.

The best time to practice is during calm, connected moments.

✨ Take dragon breaths together before bedtime.

🎵 Dance in the kitchen just because.

🌼 Smell flowers on your walk.

🎨 Create art without a goal.

🤗 Model asking for a hug when you need one.

When we practice these skills outside of stressful moments, children are more likely to remember and use them when emotions become big.

And perhaps most importantly…

Children learn how to regulate by first experiencing co-regulation. They watch us pause, breathe, problem-solve, and respond with compassion. Our calm presence becomes part of their toolbox.

Every small moment is an opportunity to build lifelong emotional skills.

🌈 Which coping skill does your child—or even you—use most often?

🚗💚 Every BCBA knows... your car eventually becomes your second office.

"Did I bring the Vineland?"
"Did Mom complete the FAST?"
"What time is that IEP meeting again?"

Between assessments, parent training, supervision, documentation, and trying to remember to eat lunch, sometimes our "office" has four wheels. 😅

This coloring page is a little love letter to the funny, chaotic, and meaningful moments that come with being a behavior analyst.

Big feelings don't always need big words. Sometimes they just need a simple path. 🧭💙

Children aren't born knowing how to understand their emotions, calm their bodies, or choose what to do next.

My Calm Compass is a simple framework that helps children navigate big feelings—one small step at a time.

Instead of simply telling children to "calm down," it offers five steps that can be practiced at home, in the classroom, and during therapy:

🧭 Pause
🧭 Notice
🧭 Name It
🧭 What Do I Need?
🧭 Choose

Big feelings are like waves. We don't have to stop the waves—we can learn to ride them.

Emotional regulation isn't about never having big feelings.

It's about making space for our feelings while building the skills to respond with intention.

Whether you're a parent, educator, therapist, or caregiver, I hope this framework helps create meaningful conversations about emotions and reminds us that emotional regulation is a skill that develops through connection, compassion, and practice.

💚 One small step at a time. Every step matters.

What helps the children in your life navigate big feelings? 💚

✨ A coloring page can teach so much more than coloring.

These pages do more than keep little hands busy.

They help children learn to:

💚 Notice what they're experiencing.

💚 Name their emotions and body sensations.

💚 Recognize the body cues connected to their feelings.

💚 Choose a helpful next step.

Whether a child is feeling lonely, nervous, or hungry, learning to recognize what's happening inside their body is the first step toward building emotional awareness, communication, and self-regulation.

One of the goals of this book is to help normalize talking about emotions and recognizing the body cues that often accompany them. As children learn to notice how their bodies feel, they begin to better understand their emotions, communicate their needs, and develop healthy coping strategies.

These pages also encourage meaningful conversations between children and the adults who support them. A simple coloring activity can become an opportunity to build emotional awareness, strengthen communication, and practice problem-solving together.

🌱 Small moments like these can lead to meaningful growth.

💚 Every emotion has a purpose. Every body cue tells a story. Helping children notice both is the first step toward building lifelong emotional awareness.

✨ Continue the conversation with Color, Feel, and Learn: A Feeling & Body Sensation Coloring & Activity Book—designed to help children build emotional awareness, recognize body cues, develop communication and coping skills, and create meaningful conversations through creativity and play.

If you know a parent, teacher, therapist, or caregiver who could benefit from this resource, I'd be honored if you shared it with them. 💚

"Why is it taking my child so long to learn this?"

If you've ever found yourself asking that question, you're not alone.

It's one of the most common concerns I hear from parents—and it's a completely understandable one.

The truth is...

🌱 Learning isn't a race.

Some children master new skills after only a few opportunities. Others need weeks, months, or even longer to develop the same skill with confidence and independence.

And that's okay.

One of the biggest misconceptions about learning is that progress should always move in a straight line.

In reality, learning often looks like this:

✨ Progress

🔄 Practice

⬅️ Temporary setbacks

🌱 More growth

Each step is part of the journey.

One message I hope every parent takes away from this resource is:

"The most meaningful comparison is not to another child. It's to where your child was yesterday."

Every child has their own strengths, experiences, interests, and pace of learning.

Instead of asking:

"Why isn't my child where someone else's child is?"

Try asking:

"What can my child do today that they couldn't do a month ago?"

Those small moments matter.

❤️ Asking for help.

❤️ Waiting a little longer.

❤️ Trying again after making a mistake.

❤️ Using a new word.

❤️ Recovering more quickly after becoming upset.

These are meaningful milestones worth celebrating.

Because our goal isn't to help children learn faster.

Our goal is to help them learn confidently, independently, and in a way that lasts.

If this message encouraged you, consider sharing it with another parent who may need this reminder today. 💚

💙 If you've been through the BCBA exam, you know it wasn't just about memorizing content—it was about perseverance, self-doubt, growth, and continuing to show up, one study session at a time.

Putting this page together brought back so many memories of my own BCBA journey. Every stop on this rollercoaster represents a moment so many of us have experienced along the way—and a reminder that every challenge is helping shape the behavior analyst you're becoming.

👇 Which stop on the rollercoaster was YOU?

I'd love to hear your story in the comments.

Children learn emotional words the same way they learn everything else—through repeated experiences, conversations, and play.
Coloring together can become more than just a fun activity. It can be an opportunity to ask questions like:
💛 “What do you think they’re feeling?”
💛 “Have you ever felt this way?”
💛 “How can you tell?”
💛 “What could help?”
These small conversations help children build emotional vocabulary, perspective-taking, and self-awareness over time.
That’s one of the reasons I created Color, Learn, & Feel—a coloring and activity book designed to encourage meaningful conversations while children color, play, and learn.

What feeling do you think children need more help learning to recognize?

You can find Color, Learn, & Feel through the link in my bio.
