๐ฉธ AMERICAN RED CROSS DECLARES EMERGENCY BLOOD SHORTAGE โ DONORS URGENTLY NEEDED ๐ฉธ
The American Red Cross has declared an emergency blood shortage after the national blood supply dropped by approximately 25% over the past month. The shortage has widened the gap between available blood and hospital demand, potentially impacting trauma patients, cancer patients, surgical patients, and others who rely on lifesaving transfusions.
The Red Cross is currently supplying hospitals nationwide with nearly 3,500 more units of blood each week than expected. Fewer donations since late May, busy summer schedules, and the loss of school blood drives have all contributed to the shortage.
๐ฉธ All blood types are needed, but there is an urgent need for:
โข O Positive
โข B Negative
โข Platelet Donors
Did you know?
โข Someone in the United States needs a blood transfusion every two seconds.
โข Red blood cells can only be stored for 42 days.
โข Platelets expire after just 5 days, making regular donations critical.
๐ Special Thank You: Anyone who donates blood between July 13โ31, 2026, will receive a Fandango Movie Ticket by email (up to $15 in ticket price and fees).
๐ฉธ Donโt Know Your Blood Type?
Many people find out their blood type when they donate blood for the first time. After your donation is tested, the American Red Cross will make your blood type available in your donor account and through the Blood Donor App.
