Trust is at the heart of everything we do.

Susan, who is completely blind, was an equestrian before she lost her sight and has continued riding at Healing Reins for the past 10 years.

Thanks to her incredible horse Barkley, her dedicated friend and volunteer Jackie, and her instructor Stacy, Susan is able to continue doing what she loves.

In this video, Jackie is helping Susan complete a circle, a movement that requires a lot of coordination and balance.

Most of us would struggle to walk in a circle with our eyes closed, let alone on horseback! Keep it up, Susan!

Some Summer Session moments ☀️ The horses could be brushed and loved on all day! 🥰

A huge thank you to our volunteers and instructors! We truly couldn’t do this without you, especially over the summer for our seasonal participants.

Current participants also enjoyed the extra opportunity to ride in a group setting that builds camaraderie, enhances confidence, and introduces new challenges.

Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Lydia and Abby! 🐴💙

Lydia and Abby are enjoying their summer home from college by spending some of their time volunteering! These incredible volunteers have dedicated many hours to supporting AKZ Camp and our summer riding sessions, helping create meaningful experiences for our participants.

Long-time volunteer, Lydia, shares that she loves volunteering because it gives her the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives. One of her favorite events from this summer was Fun on the Farm!

One of our newest volunteers, Abby, loves volunteering because it allows her to share her love for horses with others while seeing the difference we make in someone’s life! Her favorite moments are finding ways to make new connections with people of all walks of life.

Healing Reins is so lucky to have great volunteers like Lydia and Abby! We appreciate you!

This is one of the many forms of enrichment our horses enjoy during time in the grooming bay. Sniffing, nudging, or mouthing a stuffed animal allows them to engage their natural curiosity while supporting their emotional wellbeing.

Keeping our horses calm, regulated, and comfortable is a top priority, ensuring they can show up as their best selves for their riders and handlers.
