Nobody has ever gotten a coat zipped, a lunchbox packed, and two kids out the door by 7:52 while also letting the 4-year-old try it himself. The clock wins.
Independence comes together in the slow parts of the week, the ones that were already going to take a while.
Underneath the zipper and the cup and the buttons, it's hand strength, coordination, and knowing where your body is in space. That's what we work on, in sessions that mostly look like play, so the zipper stops being a 20-minute negotiation and starts being something he just does.
