Language development starts with connection—not perfection.

This toddler isn’t doing worksheets or flashcards. He’s learning through laughter, movement, and shared experiences with someone he loves.

Try these simple strategies during play:
• Follow your child’s lead.
• Narrate what they see, do, and feel using short phrases.
• Repeat key words (“splash,” “go,” “more,” “water”).
• Pause to give your child time to communicate in their own way—whether that’s a look, gesture, sound, or word.

The best language opportunities often happen during everyday moments like playing outside together. ☀️💦

🗣️ Around how many words should my child have?

Every child develops at their own pace, and these word counts are general developmental guidelines—not a diagnosis. Communication is about more than just the number of words a child says. Gestures, understanding language, play skills, social interaction, and how they use words to communicate are all important pieces of the puzzle.

Research has helped us understand typical vocabulary development, but if your child is not meeting these milestones—or if you have concerns—don’t wait. Trust your instincts and seek a speech-language evaluation. Early identification and intervention can make a meaningful difference in a child’s communication, learning, and confidence.

🗣️ ¿Aproximadamente cuántas palabras debería decir un niño según su edad?

Cada niño se desarrolla a su propio ritmo, y estas cantidades de palabras son guías generales del desarrollo, no un diagnóstico. La comunicación es mucho más que la cantidad de palabras que un niño dice. Los gestos, la comprensión del lenguaje, las habilidades de juego, la interacción social y la manera en que utiliza el lenguaje para comunicarse también son partes fundamentales de su desarrollo.

La investigación nos ayuda a conocer los hitos típicos del desarrollo del lenguaje, pero si tu hijo no está alcanzando estas metas o tienes alguna preocupación, no esperes.
