The signs are on the first slide.
What to do is on the second.
The third is the part nobody posts about.

A stroke usually happens to someone who felt fine that morning. Knowing what to look for is the whole difference between a close call and something permanent.

Save this. Send it to the people you'd want to recognize it in you.

Don't know your numbers? Let's run some labs. Schedule a free consultation with Brandi Hartsfield, MSN, BS, RN, FNP-BC, EP-C.

Have you checked your medications? 💊

National Check Your Meds Day was last week, but this one doesn't need a date on the calendar. It needs a few minutes with everything in your cabinet!

Here's why it matters. Your body doesn't know the difference between a prescription, something you grabbed at the pharmacy, and a supplement from the vitamin aisle. It takes all of them at once. And some of those combinations don't play well together. A common allergy medicine can raise your blood pressure. A supplement you've taken for years can change how a prescription works. None of it means you did anything wrong. It just means nobody has looked at the whole picture lately.

So this week, do three things:
1️⃣ Gather everything. Prescriptions, over-the-counter, vitamins, supplements. All of it in one place.
2️⃣ Check the dates. Expired medications can lose their strength or change entirely. Toss them. Most pharmacies have a drop-off box, and many police stations do too. Please don't flush them.
3️⃣ Bring the list to someone who can read it as a whole. Your pharmacist can do this for free, and they're very good at it. It's called a medication reconciliation. Your primary care provider should be doing it too, every visit, so nothing slips through between appointments.

This is the kind of thing that's easy to put off because nothing feels wrong. That's exactly why it's worth doing.

October is full of reasons to check in. 🎀

Here's the thing about awareness months: they only work if you actually know where you stand.

Your blood pressure. Your cholesterol. Your blood sugar. The numbers aren't just for your chart, they're the earliest warning you'll ever get.

Knowing your numbers is the first step. Having someone who knows what your normal looks like, and notices when it shifts, is the second.

If it's been a while, this is your sign. Book the visit. Get the labs. Ask the questions!!

October is full of many reasons to check in!

Most of what they cover is catchable early, if someone knows what your normal looks like. That's the point of having a provider in your corner.

Awareness days exist for one reason: to get you to do the thing you keep meaning to do. Book the mammogram. Go through the medicine cabinet. Learn the signs of a stroke before you need them. They're reminders built into the calendar so nobody has to rely on remembering on their own.
Keep this one handy.

Questions about Direct Primary Care? Let us know and we'll get them answered! This one came up a lot: what do I actually bring to my first appointment?

Brandi walks through the list in this video - Give it a watch, especially if you've never worked with a direct primary care provider before.

The why behind the list:
Your first visit is where we build your baseline. Not what your chart said five years ago at a practice you've since left. That's why your initial labs are also included with your membership (real numbers beat guessing), and they give us a starting point we can actually measure against.

And this is the part that's different about Brandi Hartsfield, MSN, BS, RN, FNP-BC, EP-C: you're not explaining yourself to a new face every visit. You're working with one provider who's learning your history as it happens. What's normal for you. What isn't. What you've already tried and how your body responded.

Your first appointment isn't paperwork. It's the beginning of something we're building together 💙

Healthy aging isn't about staying young. It's about staying active!! 👏

Being able to carry your own groceries up the stairs. Getting down on the floor with your grandkids (and back up again 😅) Going where you want to go, when you want to go....

That kind of life doesn't happen by accident. It gets built, a little at a time, years before you need it.

Start with one thing this week. What's it going to be? 👇

Caught the last of the light on the track. 💜🌅

There is something about an empty track at golden hour. Nobody watching, no pace to keep, just you and however many laps you feel like doing.

Movement does not have to be impressive to count. It has to be repeatable. All you have to do is START!

Remember, future you is paying attention.

Awareness months dont always get their full credit...you see a ribbon, a hashtag, and everybody moves on.

But here is what they are actually intended for--They get somebody to ask a question they had been avoiding. They turn "I should probably get that checked" into an actual appointment.

Because almost everything on the list below has the same thing in common. In the early stages, you feel completely fine. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, prediabetes, early prostate cancer. No pain, no symptoms, no warning. The only way to know is to look.

So look....

Know your numbers. Know your family history, and know what it means for when your screenings should start. Then bring it all to someone who has the time to actually walk through it with you.

We do that here at Brandi Hartsfield, MSN, BS, RN, FNP-BC, EP-C. Your baseline lab work is included at your first visit, and we go through every number together, in plain language. Not a portal. Not a seven minute visit. An actual conversation!

Now accepting new patients. Book a free Meet and Greet and ask me anything.
