This is not an easy post to write, but an important one.

I attended the service of a friend today who was killed by her ex-partner.

The most likely time for a woman to experience partner violence is during pregnancy. Intimate Partner Viloence (IPV) is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality.

As a midwife I see a lot. I feel a lot. I walk with you for many months and go into your home and help you do this really hard thing. But I also know birth isn't necessarily the hardest thing you are dealing with.

Attending birth-nights with friends is such a gift. Thanks Molly for inviting us to your party 🥳. As the years go by, I am grateful for attending many births that grow families. They are never easy, but always interesting!

A special shout out to . The history of Richmond midwifery, legalization of the CPM credential and expansion of home birth in our community has many key players. Sara is one of them. Grateful to still be doing this work in my hometown. ❤️

There are few things that get me wearing 👠 but advocating for access to midwives at the GA is one of them.

For those who dont know, I am working on my MPH and interning with Kathryn Haines, the Health Equity Manager at during this legislative session. Its only been 2 days, but already a wild ride (although not as wild as birth!)

💜Have you ever wanted a midwife but couldn't find one? 💙Have you ever wanted a midwife who accepted Medicaid? ❤️Have you ever wanted a midwife that accepted your insurance? 💚Have you ever wanted a midwife but couldn't pay out of pocket? 🩵Have you ever wanted to see a midwife in your community for prenatal or postpartum care, instead of 🚗 an hour or more 8-15x for a 15 minute appointment?

Midwives provide community driven care, at a fraction of the cost, with great outcomes! We are already serving in rural maternity deserts-but barriers for both consumers and providers is a problem!

If you have wanted a midwife, but barriers to access were just too hard, let me hear from you (send a DM)! Legislators like are listening. There is so much work to be done, but as a midwife, I know deep in my soul that community midwifery care matters!
