Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) is pleased to welcome Board-Certified Cardiologist Dr. Matthew Lyons, who is now accepting patients at Good Shepherd Cardiology located at 620 NW 11th St, Suite M-201, in Hermiston.
“Dr. Lyons brings extensive expertise in clinical cardiology and advanced cardiac imaging that will greatly benefit our patients,” said Art Mathisen, GSHCS President & CEO. “We are excited to expand access to exceptional cardiology services to meet the needs of our growing communities.”
Dr. Lyons has more than 16 years of cardiology experience and is passionate about helping patients improve their long-term heart health through collaborative care, advanced diagnostics, preventive medicine, and personalized treatment plans. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of cardiovascular conditions, including coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter, palpitations, valvular heart disease, syncope, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and heart disease prevention.
“I chose to join Good Shepherd because of the unique opportunity to join an academic-quality cardiology program in a smaller community,” said Dr. Lyons. “I look forward to working with the cardiology team to further expand high-quality cardiac care and advanced cardiac imaging for our patients in Northeast Oregon.”
Dr. Lyons earned his Doctor of Medicine with Honors from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor, Michigan, followed by a Cardiology Fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology, Summa Cum Laude, from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and holds several Board Certifications by the National Board of Echocardiography, Cardiovascular Diseases, Vascular Interpretation and Nuclear Cardiology.
At Good Shepherd Cardiology, Dr. Lyons and the cardiology team provide comprehensive outpatient cardiology care for adult patients using advanced diagnostic technology and evidence-based treatment approaches. Services offered include EKGs, event monitors, echocardiograms, stress testing with and without imaging, vascular ultrasounds, and coronary calcium scoring.
“My philosophy of care is rooted in collaboration,” said Dr. Lyons. “Every patient is unique, and my goal is to work closely with them to create a treatment plan that fits their lifestyle while helping them achieve long-term heart health.”
Originally from the Southeastern United States, Dr. Lyons enjoys hiking, backpacking, and spending time outdoors. After many visits to the Pacific Northwest, he is excited to now call Oregon home and explore the region’s natural beauty.
