💕 Why does s*x hurt?

Pain with intimacy is common, but that doesn’t mean you should have to live with it.

Pain with pe*******on can have many contributing factors, including tight or overactive pelvic floor muscles, hormonal changes and vaginal dryness, scar tissue, previous surgery or childbirth, and your body’s natural protective response after experiencing pain.

Sometimes the pelvic floor begins to tense or guard in anticipation of discomfort — which can create a cycle of even more tension and pain.

The good news? There are ways to help. 💗

Pelvic floor physical therapy can help identify what may be contributing to your symptoms and provide individualized treatment to decrease muscle tension, improve tissue mobility and flexibility, reduce pain, and help you feel more comfortable and confident with intimacy.

✨ You deserve intimacy without pain.

☕️ Love your coffee…but your bladder has other opinions? 😂

If your morning cup has you suddenly running to the bathroom, you’re not imagining it! Caffeine can make the bladder more active and sensitive, which may increase urgency, frequency, leaking, or pelvic floor tension — sometimes before your bladder is even full.

The good news? You don’t necessarily have to break up with coffee. 💕☕️

Small changes like drinking a little less, trying half-caf or decaf, staying hydrated, avoiding “just in case” bathroom trips, and learning what your bladder responds to can make a big difference.

And if your bladder seems to be running the show, pelvic floor physical therapy can help you figure out what’s triggering your symptoms and develop strategies to calm things down. 🌿

Feeling bloated? You’re not alone—and it’s not always just about what you ate. 🫤

Bloating can have many different causes, including constipation, food sensitivities, hormonal changes, endometriosis, pelvic floor tension, stress, IBS, fluid retention, and even the way your core manages pressure.

A few simple things may help:

🌿 Stay hydrated
🌿 Keep your body moving
🌿 Address constipation
🌿 Breathe and relax your belly and pelvic floor
🌿 Slow down when you eat
🌿 Pay attention to patterns and triggers

If bloating is frequent, painful, affecting your daily life, or accompanied by changes in your bowel habits, it may be worth looking a little deeper.

Pelvic floor physical therapy can help identify contributing factors involving your pelvic floor, core, bowel habits, breathing, and pressure management—and create a treatment plan specific to you.

10 Tips to Help Prevent UTIs 💗

Did you know women are much more likely than men to develop UTIs? One big reason is anatomy—the female urethra is shorter and closer to the a**s, making it easier for bacteria to reach the urinary tract.

The good news? There are simple everyday habits that may help reduce your risk!

✨ Stay hydrated — Water helps keep things moving and supports normal bladder flushing.

✨ Don’t hold it — Aim to empty your bladder about every 3–4 hours while awake. Regularly holding it much longer? Definitely a no-no!

✨ P*e after in*******se — It may help flush bacteria from the urinary tract.

✨ Change out of wet or sweaty clothes — Don’t hang out in that damp swimsuit or workout gear.

✨ Wipe front to back — Simple, but important!

✨ Consider vitamin C — Include vitamin C-rich foods in your diet. If acidity bothers you, buffered supplements may be another option.

✨ Prevent constipation — Your bladder and bowels are neighbors, and they definitely affect each other!

✨ Don’t overlook estrogen — Lower estrogen during perimenopause and menopause can increase susceptibility to recurrent UTIs. Ask your healthcare provider if vaginal estrogen may be appropriate for you.

✨ Skip irritating intimate products — Fragrances, douches and harsh washes? Your v***a doesn’t need them.

✨ Relax and empty fully — Don’t rush, hover or strain. Give your pelvic floor and bladder time to do their jobs.

One more thing: If you’re having frequent “UTI” symptoms but your cultures keep coming back negative, it may be time to look a little deeper. Pelvic floor dysfunction, constipation, incomplete bladder emptying and hormonal changes can sometimes cause similar symptoms.

Save this one for later and share it with someone who could use these tips! 💕

Let’s talk UTIs… because nobody wants one. 😬

Burning. Urgency. Running to the bathroom every 10 minutes. That uncomfortable “something just isn’t right” feeling. Yep—we’re talking about UTIs.

The good news? There are things you can do to help lower your risk: 💧

👉 Stay hydrated throughout the day
👉 Don’t hold your p*e for long periods
👉 Make sure you’re emptying your bladder completely
👉 Keep constipation under control
👉 Wipe front to back
👉 Change out of sweaty or wet clothing
👉 Pay attention to changes in your bladder habits

And here’s the tricky part: UTI-like symptoms don’t always mean you have a UTI. Pelvic floor dysfunction, bladder irritation, hormonal changes, IC/bladder pain, vaginal irritation and other conditions can feel surprisingly similar.

If you think you have a UTI, get evaluated and tested. And if you have fever, chills, back/flank pain, nausea or vomiting, seek medical care promptly.

If the infection is gone but the urgency, frequency, pressure, discomfort or difficulty emptying isn’t, your pelvic floor may be part of the picture. 🌿

Do I need pelvic floor physical therapy after having a baby?

YES!!!! 💗

And not because something has to be “wrong.”

Pregnancy and childbirth ask a LOT of your body. Your pelvic floor, core, hips, back, breathing mechanics, posture, and movement all adapt throughout pregnancy and birth.

And after baby?

Your body deserves rehabilitation too.

Pelvic floor PT can help you reconnect with your core and pelvic floor, restore strength and coordination, improve mobility, and feel confident returning to the activities you love.

You don’t have to wait until you’re experiencing leaking, pelvic pressure, pain with s*x, back or hip pain, prolapse symptoms, or difficulty returning to exercise.

I believe pelvic floor physical therapy should be a standard part of postpartum care.

Because postpartum recovery isn’t just about waiting for your body to “heal.”

It’s about helping your body reconnect, rebuild, and function well again.

You cared for your body throughout pregnancy.
You cared for your baby through birth.
Now you deserve care, too. 🌸

Reach out for a complimentary phone consultation to learn how pelvic floor PT can support your postpartum recovery.

☕🍷🥤 Not ready to break up with your coffee, wine, or Diet Coke? 😂

Good news—you may not have to!

Certain drinks can irritate the bladder and contribute to urgency, frequency, bladder discomfort, or leakage, but everyone’s bladder is different. And sometimes, a few simple changes can make a difference.

Try experimenting with:

💧 Dilute it — sip water before, during, and after
☕ Don’t stack ’em — pick one irritant and give your bladder a break
🥤 Sip, don’t chug — slow and steady is usually friendlier to your bladder
📏 Size matters — try a smaller serving
⏰ Timing matters — think twice before a workout, long car ride, travel, or bedtime
☕ Try a gentler version — half-caf, decaf, lower-acid coffee, herbal tea, or a lower-acid/lower-tannin wine
🔎 Know YOUR triggers — what bothers someone else’s bladder may not bother yours

The goal isn’t always to eliminate everything you enjoy.

Experiment. Pay attention to your symptoms. Find what works for YOUR bladder.

These changes won’t work for everyone—but sometimes they help, and they’re worth a try. 🌿

Experiencing bladder urgency, frequency, leakage, or discomfort? Pelvic floor physical therapy may be able to help.

🥤 The Smoothie Trick for Finding Your Pelvic Floor

Having trouble figuring out what it actually means to “engage” your pelvic floor?

Try this visualization:

Imagine you’re sitting in a smoothie 🥤 and there’s a straw traveling up through your pelvic floor.

Now add your breath:

✨ Inhale: Let your belly gently expand and allow your pelvic floor to relax.

✨ Exhale: Gently draw your belly in and imagine sipping the smoothie UP through the straw with your pelvic floor.

Think up and in—not squeezing as hard as you can.

💡 Make it easier:
Try it lying on your back first. With less gravity working through your pelvic floor, it can be much easier to feel and learn the movement.

And yes…my smoothie may have inspired today’s pelvic floor lesson. 😂🥤

Constipated? Sometimes you just need a little lift. 😂

And apparently, there are MANY ways to make that happen.

If you’re struggling to have a bowel movement, your toilet posture may be making things harder than they need to be.

Elevating your feet so your knees are higher than your hips puts your body into more of a squat position. This helps the pelvic floor and puborectalis muscle relax, creating a more open pathway for stool to pass.

Translation: less pushing, less straining, and hopefully an easier trip to the bathroom.

And you don’t necessarily need fancy equipment.

Try:

Fabulous platform shoes
Yoga blocks
A sturdy stack of books
That Amazon box you were definitely going to recycle
A small footstool
Or, in an emergency…your partner on all fours. 😂

Okay, maybe don’t try that last one.

Whatever you use, make sure it’s safe and stable. The goal is the same:

Feet supported. Knees higher than hips. Lean slightly forward. Relax your belly. Breathe. Let your pelvic floor relax.

If you’re regularly straining, having difficulty emptying, or spending way too much quality time on the toilet, there may be more going on than simply needing more fiber.

Pelvic floor physical therapy can help with posture, breathing, pelvic floor tension, coordination, and bowel mechanics.

“Engage your core!”

Okay… but HOW? 🤔

If you’ve ever been told to “engage your core” and immediately wondered…

Am I doing this right? Am I supposed to suck in? Hold my breath? Brace really hard? 😅

You’re not alone.

Here’s the secret: core engagement should be gentle.

✨ Start with your breath
✨ Exhale slowly
✨ Gently draw your lower belly inward
✨ Think of your hip bones coming toward each other—like buckling a seatbelt
✨ Keep breathing as you add movement

You shouldn’t have to suck in, clench, grip, or hold your breath to find your core.

And remember: the hardest exercise isn’t always the best exercise. If you lose your core connection when you move, slow it down and make the movement smaller.

Your deep core, pelvic floor, breathing, and posture all work together. 💗

Still thinking, “Yeah… I have absolutely no idea if I’m doing this right.” 😂

That’s where I can help.
