💛 Hope for children with cancer starts with research.

Hyundai Hope On Wheels has awarded $400,000 to Dr. Sinisa Dovat, a Four Diamonds researcher at Penn State College of Medicine, to support research into new treatment approaches for pediatric acute myeloid leukemia, an aggressive form of childhood cancer.

The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital also received a $100,000 Impact Award to support pediatric cancer research and care.

During the celebration, young patients and their families took part in the Hyundai Hope on Wheels Handprint Ceremony, adding their painted handprints to Dr. Dovat’s lab coat and a Hyundai vehicle — a powerful reminder of the children at the heart of this work.

Since 2006, Hyundai Hope on Wheels has awarded $2.8 million to Four Diamonds at Golisano Children’s Hospital. 🎗️

💙 Big recognition for an important area of care.

Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the nation’s best hospitals for pediatric and adolescent behavioral health in the 2026-2027 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings.

From eating disorders and autism to ADHD, anxiety, depression and other complex behavioral health conditions, our teams provide specialized care for children, teens and young adults and their families.

And we’re continuing to expand access across the region, including a new 21-bed child and adolescent inpatient mental health unit at Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center and expanded capacity for our partial hospitalization program in Harrisburg.

It’s an important recognition of the teams working every day to meet the growing behavioral health needs of young people.

This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital is sharing stories of hope and breakthroughs that are changing what’s possible for children with cancer.

👶 More newborns will soon be able to receive specialized care close to home in Lancaster County.

On Oct. 31, Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center will open a new Level II NICU, giving babies born at 32 weeks’ gestation or later who need additional support the opportunity to stay close to their moms and families.

The new NICU will provide specialized monitoring and treatment in a family-centered environment, with an experienced neonatal team, neonatologists and 24/7 advanced practice provider coverage.

And when a baby needs a higher level of care, Lancaster Medical Center will remain closely connected to the Level IV NICU at Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital and its pediatric specialists.

It’s another step toward making specialized care more accessible to families in Lancaster County. 💙

Twenty-five years after the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, we remember the lives lost, the heroes who stepped forward and the families and communities forever changed by that day.

🏒 Sometimes, finding the right opportunity can change everything.

For Jaden and his family, that opportunity started at Rec Fest.

After learning Jaden would not walk independently, his family wasn’t sure what his future would look like. Through physical therapy at Penn State Health, they discovered Rec Fest — where families can explore adaptive sports and learn what’s possible.

For Jaden, that led to hockey — a sport that gives him confidence, strength and a place to be fully himself.

“It also gives me strength knowing that I can do this.”

💗 Sometimes, a small act of kindness can meet a very real need.

What started as a simple donation effort among Penn State Health employees turned into more than 500 bras donated to the Brem Foundation to Defeat Breast Cancer's Re-Bra Initiative.

From May through July, employees at Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center, Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center and Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center donated new and gently used bras that will go to women staying at homeless shelters in Carlisle and Harrisburg.

The donations provide a basic necessity while also helping connect women with breast health resources and screening information in both English and Spanish.

The effort was led by Stacy Maksin, a social worker at Penn State Health Cancer Center at Hampden Medical Center. What began with women donating bras that no longer fit after breast surgery has grown into an opportunity for women to help other women in their communities.

Thank you to everyone who donated and helped turn a simple gesture into something that can make a real difference. 👏

📞 One phone call changed the course of health care in our region.

In August 1963, a $50 million phone call set in motion an extraordinary vision: to create a medical school, teaching hospital and research center in honor of Milton S. Hershey.

That vision became Penn State College of Medicine and Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center — and for more than six decades, it has shaped the future of medicine while caring for generations of patients and families.

🦸‍♂️ Today’s forecast: 100% chance of superheroes.

Captain America, Spider-Man and Superman made their annual visit to Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital this morning, rappelling down the side of the hospital to the cheers of patients, families, staff and onlookers. 💙

The superhero descent has become a beloved tradition, bringing a little extra excitement and joy to children and families spending time at the hospital.

And while their true identities remain a mystery, these superheroes are typically window washers with Harrisburg-based Vancena Property Service, who volunteer their time to make the special visit possible.

We’re grateful for the Vancena team and everyone who helps make moments like these possible for our patients and families. ✨

🤍 A final salute. A brotherhood that lasts a lifetime.

When Marine Corps Reserve veteran Mike Dechert’s family prepared to say goodbye, fellow veterans gathered at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center to honor his service and stand beside his family.

At Mike’s bedside, they sang the Marine Hymn, draped an American flag over him and offered a final salute — surrounding him and his loved ones with the support of a community that understands the bonds of service.

💙 Sometimes the most meaningful care goes beyond medicine.

Congratulations to the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Unit at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center on receiving the DAISY Team Award for extraordinary teamwork, compassion and exceptional patient-centered care.

When a young patient shared that his biggest wish was to spend Halloween at home with his siblings, the team quietly came together to make it happen. Nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, care coordinators and many others worked behind the scenes to safely coordinate his care so he could spend the holiday where he wanted to be most.

On Halloween morning, members of the care team surprised him with the news:

"Wish granted." ✨

This recognition reflects the compassion, collaboration and dedication our teams bring to every patient and family they serve. Congratulations to the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Unit on this well-deserved honor! 👏

Congratulations to Tim Canfield, a security officer at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, on being named July Employee of the Month! 🎉

Tim is known for putting patients, visitors and colleagues first while living Penn State Health's RITE values every day. Whether he's helping resolve difficult situations with professionalism and compassion or taking the time to personally es**rt patients to their appointments, Tim goes above and beyond to make every interaction a positive one.

One recent example was when Tim noticed an elderly couple trying to find the Radiology department. Rather than simply giving directions, he walked them to their appointment to make sure they arrived on time.
