Could everyday environmental chemicals play a role in endometrial cancer? 🔬

Penn State researchers are exploring that question, with a focus on women in rural communities who may face additional exposures through agriculture and private well water.

In this Q&A, Shaina Bruce, MD, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology, and Odette Mina, director of laboratories at the Institute of Energy and the Environment, explain how endocrine-disrupting chemicals may affect reproductive health, how Penn State’s Environmental Contaminants Analytical Laboratory is analyzing biological samples and why studying uterine tissue could reveal new clues about disease risk.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted children's mental health care. New research shows what happened next.

A new Penn State College of Medicine study of 13 million pediatric health records found that mental health treatment among children and adolescents surpassed pre-pandemic levels by 2022. The increase was driven primarily by children entering treatment for the first time, with the steepest rises occurring among girls.

The findings offer important insight into how pediatric mental health care has changed in recent years and underscore the need for equitable access to evidence-based care for every child.

Penn State College of Medicine faculty experts recently shared their perspectives with The Healthy on how data from wearable devices can offer valuable insights into overall health.

"Having your body in a chronically stressed state is a cardiovascular risk," said Matthew Silvis, MD, The Hershey Company Professor of Family and Community Medicine, chair of family and community medicine, and professor of orthopaedics and therapy services.

The article also features Rami Khayat, MD, chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine and professor of medicine, who explains the important roles REM and deep sleep play in recovery, heart health and long-term wellness.
