Let’s talk about cholesterol.
High cholesterol usually does not cause symptoms, but over time it can contribute to plaque buildup in the arteries and increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular problems.
A simple blood test called a lipid panel can help measure your cholesterol levels, including LDL cholesterol, often called “bad” cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, often called “good” cholesterol, and triglycerides.
The good news is that cholesterol can often be improved with lifestyle changes, nutrition, physical activity, weight management, and medication when appropriate. Treatment is not one-size-fits-all, and your personal risk factors matter.
At Primary Health of Central PA, our Family Medicine and Cardiology physicians work together to help patients understand their cholesterol numbers and create individualized, evidence-based plans to reduce cardiovascular risk.
