“The best outcomes in sports emergencies begin long before an emergency occurs.” — Dr. Michael Simhachalam, MD, sports medicine physician.

That spirit of preparation was on full display at Frye Regional Medical Center’s annual Sideline Emergencies Event on Tuesday, June 2, where physicians, athletic trainers, EMS professionals, nurses and community partners came together for hands‑on training and emergency response simulations.

Participants also completed three hours of practical training, including athletic gear removal, spine‑boarding techniques, and live emergency scenarios simulating cardiac arrest response and the safe extrication of injured athletes from the field to the ambulance.

This year’s event brought together 34 organizations across healthcare, education, EMS, fire and rescue, and athletic programs — including professionals from 3 universities, 12 high schools, 5 hospitals, 5 clinics, 3 EMS agencies, and 6 fire and rescue organizations — all united by one goal: keeping athletes safe.

By strengthening teamwork, communication and preparedness, we’re helping ensure athletes throughout our region receive rapid, coordinated care when every second matters.

Thank you to everyone who participated and shares our commitment to athlete safety.
