We had the honor of attending a repeat family on Saturday. After seeing momma for her 37 week prenatal that morning, this midwife said a lil prayer babe would come sooner rather than later - mom was done done lol. This handsome boy made his mom work so so hard - and to our surprise he came out looking straight up at us; sunny side up. Weighing in at 7lbs 13oz and 20.75 inches long (at 37 weeks 😵‍💫), welcome to the world, Baby A! We are so excited to watch you grow alongside your big brothers 🥰

Long awaited but well worth it!! Welcome to the world, Baby R!!

The sweetest little guy was born Friday afternoon. He was wrapped up in his cord FOUR times and made his momma work hard to bring him Earthside. Congratulations, T and S!! He is absolute perfection!!

We had the privilege of attending a repeat mom yesterday morning. We will always be in awe of the power of women.

Growing and waiting for a baby seem like passive events, but they are so active. This momma’s patience and perserverance and joy while waiting… and waiting… for her little one’s arrival was awe-inspiring.

Welcome to the world, baby girl!! We’re so happy you’re finally here!!

We had these thoughts in our heads during our own labors… and then the baby was out!

We had these thoughts in our heads during our own labors… and then the baby was out!

Things your midwife says in labor and what you actually hear:

"Just breathe through it. Blow out like you're blowing out a candle."

(Said while the baby is actively crowning. I am attempting to blow out a candle while what feels like a watermelon is exiting my bu****le. Breathing is not currently available to me.)

"Drop your shoulders and let everything from your head to your toes just loosen up."

(My insides are currently being squeezed in a mechanical vice. But sure. I'll just loosen up.)

"You're safe and you're doing such a great job."

(I am in fact not doing a great job. I am fairly certain I am dying. These feel like different things.)

"You CAN do this. You're almost there and the only way out now is through."

(At this point I have no choice. That's not encouragement, that's just math. And honestly? A little brutal.)

"This looks like early labor. The best thing you can do right now is rest."

(Said as my midwife tucked me into my own bed and handed me sleepy herbs. I'm sorry. EARLY? This cannot be early. I refuse to accept early. Early is not possible right now.)

"You really need to try and eat something to keep your energy up for pushing."

(The thought of eating anything ever again is offensive to me. I have decided this baby is never coming out and food is no longer part of my life.)

"Why don't you snuggle up with your husband and get some oxytocin flowing to help pick up those contractions?"

(Ma'am. Have you seen me? I am a sweaty, leaking, enormous human who currently feels the opposite of romantic. My husband is also a little scared of me right now. Snuggling is not on the table.)

"Your body was made for this."

(Cool. My body and I are having a serious conversation after this is over.)

"Every contraction is bringing your baby closer."

(This is technically true and also completely unhelpful right now.)

"You're almost there."

(You have said this four times in the last two hours. We need to discuss what almost means.)

And then the baby arrives.

And suddenly every single thing we said was true.

You were safe. You did do a great job. You could do it. You were almost there.

Your body WAS made for this.

And it was worth every single second.

So blessed to be a part of this family’s journey! Welcome to the world, Baby M!!

So blessed to be a part of this family’s journey! Welcome to the world, Baby M!!

A beautiful little girl, weighing in at 8 #3, joined us Earthside early Sunday morning. Her mama worked long and hard to get her here… and she was born en caul. This only happens 1 in every 80,000 births and of course it’s because we brought a new student along and the universe needed her to see something rare!
Congrats to C and J on your newest little one, she is so loved!!

A beautiful home birth last night!! Mama was one of the toughest we’ve seen yet, and y’all, when we say third babies have to have their own story, this baby could write his own book.

Early Thursday morning, we had to rely on our newest student midwife, Percy, to be our eyes and ears at a super fast, super surprising, unplanned home birth.

From the first text of “I had a couple inconsistent contractions” to “my water broke and I’m pushing” was less than an hour. Mom planned to be at the birth center, tucked in and cozy, but instead delivered with Percy by her side and her midwives on the phone, driving fast and furious.

Congratulations to this rock star of a mama!! Welcome to the world, Baby R!! He weighed in at 7 #11. Percy gave his full debrief after the fact, but the meows were hard to interpret. Doesn’t he look proud of himself?
