There is a time for movement, stretching, and strengthening the body. There is also a time to simply be still.

When we spend so much of our day in “go mode,” our bodies can become stuck in fight-or-flight—holding tension in our muscles, shoulders, hips, and even our breath.

Taking a few moments to rest allows the body to shift into a state of relaxation and recovery. The nervous system begins to settle, the breath slows, and the body is given permission to release what it has been carrying.

Rest is not being lazy.
Rest is part of the practice.

Take a breath. Release the tension. Let your body know it is safe to relax.

Elephant walks and ostrich walks are two of my favorite ways to begin a session. They help loosen tight hamstrings, gently release tension in the back, and get the body moving before we move into deeper stretches or exercises.

I also love using them as an icebreaker. They’re simple, effective, and help clients relax, become more aware of their bodies, and ease into movement without feeling overwhelmed.

Sometimes the best way to start is with a few simple movements that wake up the body and remind us that flexibility and mobility are built one step at a time. 🧘🏽‍♀️✨
