What is EMDR, and who is it for?

If you feel stuck in a past experience, even when you logically know you're safe now, EMDR therapy can help.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps your brain do what it's designed to do: learn from and update old memories with new information. You don't have to relive every detail out loud. Using bilateral stimulation, like eye movements or tapping, your brain processes the memory the same way it does during REM sleep, until it settles into something calmer and more resolved.

EMDR therapy is often used for anxiety, panic attacks, flashbacks, and difficulty moving on from past experiences, even ones that don't feel like "big trauma."

If something from your past still affects your present, book a session today.

If this is the standard dialogue script in your house right now, you are definitely not alone.

As the school year transitions back into full swing, the mental and emotional load on teenagers spikes significantly. But as a mom, watching your teen pull back or completely shut down can feel incredibly isolating. You want to help, but every attempt to connect can feel like knocking on a locked door.

Here’s the reality: It is completely normal for teenagers to struggle to open up to their parents during these heavy transition phases. It isn't a reflection of your parenting; it’s a reflection of their current developmental hurdles.

Sometimes, they don't need parental advice, they just need a neutral, safe space to untangle their thoughts without the fear of being judged or letting anyone down.

An Aspen Counseling therapist can be that bridge. We provide a pressure-free environment where your teen can process their anxiety, stress, and changing routines at their own pace. You don't have to navigate their mental health journey completely on your own.

Teen D&D Group at Aspen Counseling Services

What if therapy felt more like an adventure than an appointment?

We started a therapist-led Dungeons and Dragons group, a new kind of group therapy for teens in Highland, Utah. Teens play D&D together while a licensed therapist guides the story and helps them build skills that carry into everyday life.

Alex Rawle, LCSW, runs the group. Through epic adventures, teens ages 14 to 17 build social skills, communication, and confidence, and form meaningful friendships. In a fun, supportive environment, they also learn practical strategies for managing anxiety while working together as a team.
