Are you suffering from a "social hangover"? 🛋️🔋

We’ve all been there: You say "yes" to a social gathering out of pure obligation. You spend the entire evening putting on a happy face, nodding along, and expending energy you don’t actually have. By the time you get home, you feel completely depleted, anxious, or physically exhausted.

This is what we call a social hangover, and it’s a major sign that your social boundaries need a tune-up. 🛑✨

True belief isn’t just a thought—it’s a physical shape. 🧠🌊⚓️

When self-doubt hits you in the middle of a game or performance, your body responds instantly. Your shoulders round, your breath becomes shallow, and you physically collapse. If your body is signaling a "threat" or "defeat" posture, you cannot simply think your way into feeling confident.

To override self-doubt under pressure, you have to work from the "bottom-up" by creating a Physical Anchor.

By training your body to return to its unique posture of success, you send an immediate signal up the vagus nerve to your brain that says: "We are safe, we are capable, and we have done this before."

Believe you're halfway there

Step 1: Recall. Go back to that moment where you felt entirely unstoppable.

Step 2: Locate. Find where that confidence lives physically—is it a warm chest, an open posture, or heavy feet?

Step 3: Trigger. Lock it in with a micro-movement (like adjusting your gear or a deep breath).

Step 4: Deploy. Don't argue with your anxious thoughts. Force your body into that peak posture and let the brain follow.

We often think of our mind as the master controller and our body as simply a vehicle that carries it around. Have you ever walked into a room feeling completely fine, only to leave feeling anxious, heavy, or angry just because someone else was? This is called emotional contagion.

In our latest blog post, we are continuing our boundary series with a deep dive into Emotional Boundaries—the invisible line that distinguishes our feelings and internal experiences from those around us. 🛡️✨

Why this happens (The Biology):
Our brains contain specialized cells called mirror neurons. They form a neural “mirror” that maps what we observe onto our own nervous systems, helping us feel empathy. The catch? Without strong emotional boundaries, those mirror neurons can leave us open to soaking up everyone else’s emotional noise.

As the legendary Martha Graham noted, your movement is a direct barometer of your internal weather. When we are stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed, our bodies hold that tension—our shoulders tighten, our breath becomes shallow, and our posture protects our heart. 🌧️

Why Dance & Somatic Movement Therapy works:
Traditional talk therapy is incredible, but it only accesses the brain from the "top-down." Dance and somatic therapy work from the "bottom-up." By intentionally moving, shaking, and dancing, we speak directly to the nervous system. We give the body a safe container to release stored cortisol, process "stuck" emotions, and complete the stress response cycle.

We often hear the phrase "be kind to your mind," but what does that look like in practice?

From a somatic perspective, being kind to your mind means giving it a break from the constant loops of overthinking, analyzing, and organizing. It means shifting your awareness from your head down into your body, letting your nervous system drop out of a "high-alert" sympathetic state and into a state of deep, restorative rest. 🌲🌿

Just like the still water in this picture, your mind reflects what is happening in your environment and your physical body. When we ground ourselves, the mental ripples naturally begin to quiet down.
